If it's in a pack, it's probably going to be belt-drive and stuff that'll fall apart the instant you put a vinyl on them. Buy equipment seperately. You'll end up quitting DJ'ing if you get packs because of the cheapness. And also, they're StantonB-30's, right?
80's is the lowest you should go with those. 100's would be best for insurance.

I've played on that package... It sucks. Just like everyone else said. The tonearms are terrible, and no matter the needle, it skips like a bitch when backcueing. If it's all you can afford it'll work, but not very well.
P.S. Don't roll your eyes when people are giving you suggestions. They're right. Packages generally suck. Try using the SEARCH first next time, btw. |
Well, I was NOT rolling my eyes because someone was giving me suggestions. You know, the funny part is that I actually thanked them for their suggestions (and I really meant it) and then I moved on to a new sentence and was asking if someone that actually had tested the package (because I didn't know if the nice ppl with the suggestions have) could give me some advice.
Anyway, thank you very much for your advice, and I will use the search function next time..

I'll throw my 2 cents in here.
First off, I bought this package about a year and a half ago and it does not suck as bad as people make it out to be. I don't have it anymore since I have upgraded to some proper equipment a few months ago. Looking at the Battlepak now, it is pretty shitty, but that has no relevence to a complete beginner. Much of the hatred that packages get is completely unnecessary. It all depends on what YOU want to gain from it.
Now to the question at hand - should your friend buy it or not. If your friend is totally new to the dj scene and has no idea what to do once everything is hooked up, I say yes, he should buy it. It will provide the underlying fundamentals and ideas into the art of dj'ing. That is what this package did for me. I learned the basics and used the equipment provided to its fullest until I could not progress any further. By that time, I was plenty ready and motivated to upgrade and am now the proud owner of 2x Technics and a PCV-275 mixer.
If your friend has experience at dj'ing, then I'd say no, he shouldn't get it. He should save a bit more and buy some proper equipment instead. Not necessary Technics, Technics, Technics, but something more higher end than the battlepak. Possibly some of the higher end Stanton models?? If he should choose to get it, tell him to upgrade the headphones immediately because the ones included are _________ (insert the worse word you can think of).

you nailed it right there bro...
me and a friend of mine also bought the pack, almost exactly a year ago. the one thing we noticed was that we needed a new mixer, and new headphones...so we changed those over a couple of months... the tables on the other hand are not the greatest, but they are definetly not the worst. they do have trouble holding the pitch sometimes, but they are still going strong. in fact, my buddy is still using them. i wanted to break off on my own so i bought my own equipment...2xtechs and a djx700, but he still uses the same turntables...and i must say he doesn't pretty damn well with them.
