Hello! Gemini TT's

HI I'm new here
Been readin lots of things on this forum waiting for my posting ability.

I've looked through this site and I haven't seen anyone mention anything about Gemini turntables.
I don't have the cash for techs, Secondhand they still outta my price range. I was thinking of maybe a pair of Gemini XI 500 ii
Stanton str8-80 and
Numark TT 1520 are also along my price range.
and maybe if I kill abit of my vinyl cash, numark TT200 or gemini pdt6000

Mixer I have decided on a vestax pcv 175 or pcv 180 cause both are almost the same price.

Headphones: Still looking into that one.

Any suggestions?

Btw. Is it only the durability that make the tech's the nr1 choice?
Is there seriously no way that any other TT is of better quality and performance? not even Vestax pdx 2300 or Stanton str8 150? how would these two compare against a Technics SL 1200 MK5

Well actually if you do a search you will be swamped by posts just like this one, but I'll help you out anyway.

The 500IIs are crap I have a pair, trust me there crap, not bad for the first couple months, but you outgrow them fast and they die fast, oh wait I mean there great you should buy mine.
If you want to get Gemini I would recommend the PT-2100s, my friend has them and there pretty dam good for the price.

The Str-80s haven't tried them, but there are many people who like them, you would be safe I think if you got these.

The Numarks 1520, haven't tried but have heard alot of bad things about them, the lowest price Numark you should look at would be the TT200, from reviews they seem pretty good.

As for the Mixer, I think you will be happy with that mixer, its very good, alot of people are prolly gonna tell you to save more and get the 275, but then I would tell you to save more and get a Bozak.

And as for headphones, its personal preference, I would recommend the Sony V6s to start of looking at, then work your way from there, TRY them all out, don't read that one person liked them then go out and buy them, cos you might not like them the same way.

Now just so you know, people say Techs cos its the last deck you will need, it just does what its surposed to do without any problems, but there are other decks out there that you would be fine with, dunno about in a club environment but for home DJin, the Str-150s you mentioned would be great, its got many many fans, and its actually got the same internals as a whole bunch of other top line decks out there like the Acuras and such, so I would recommend them, as for the PDX, never tried it but I'm sure its a pretty good deck.

Best of luck.

I would go for the TT200s before any of the others mentioned, I had some and they were decent, they did the job, and were fairly inexpensive. As for headphones, you can spend quite a bit in that category, I would recommend the Sony V6's if you don't want to spend alot. I have a used pair that I don't really need that I was going to put up on Ebay soon if you're interested.

From what I hear, Gemeni's are shit. I would still buy them though if I couldn't afford anything else. Go with the Stantons if you want something good.

And prodigy, YGPM .

I bought a pair of gemini xl300's, they are generally shite TTs but its been 6 months since i bought them - and they still hold their pitch and run fine. The torque sucks ass...but i dont see the big deal with torque anyway - i can mix fine with crap torque.

im guesssing the xl 500 ii will be pretty much the same as mine, with a few extra features, maybe a bit more torque, etc.

Overall, im still happy with them.

My first choice in cheapo decks would be the tt-200 or tt500. Those should last. As for str8-80, they're not that bad and they would be my next choice. but for $200 you may be able to find a used sl200mk2 for that price.

As for headphones, i would recomend the sony mdr-v6 (also known as mdr-v7506) or sennheiser hd-280pro.

torque is... good. it's not indispensable, just alot more comfortable for corrections and such. you understand it when you get used to it. (ie. going from STR8-80s to Mk2s) also, it rules having a platter that keeps spinning when your hand is pressed on the vinyl, not having to be uber gentle about it, etc.

+about 15 vinyls

I think I could live with that

The lower range TTs are not that good indeed, but you can't go really wrong with a pair of PT2100s or PT2400s.. I have the 2400s myself (for more than 1,5 years now) and I am very happy with them.. The only thing is that I think they are not produced anymore.

A friend of mine has a pair of PT2000, which are the same as 2100s for the major part, and they are good value for money too.

I was looking at the pt2410 and pdt6000 , I can't find any negative crits about either of these, It was between those and the vestax pdx2000.
I think i'm going for the vestax though.Even though I quite like the pt2410, it comes in a translucent blue colour, looks awsome

BTW what the difference between the pdx2000 black and the silver pdx2000???? They difference in price by nearly a $100 but I see no difference in stats.

I'm sure its just one of those "limited edition" things . . . I think they made some blue ones for awhile and they go for more because theyre harder to get ahold of.

I have a pair of PT2100's.. and I love em... They got great torque, hold pitch perfect, and generally seem to be a sturdy TT... I am really happy with em.. especially at the price I paid..
