Hmm, having problems getting a decent recording of synth audio...
In Cubase SX, I'm monitoring the output of my synth, midi is being sent to it and it all sounds nice, clear and stereo. When I record the audio with Cubase it sounds poor, and the volume level is also weak considering that I have my synth up full whack. I'm using an audiophile 2496 - would be grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction. Can't find much on the net that helps and I've got nowhere in the last hour trying to fiddle my way to a solution.

I have the same problem with my audiophile when recording from my hardware.. both when recording with cubase and sound forge..
best thing to do is to close cubase after it's recorded and then maxamize the level with a wave editor.
of course, if someone knows how to turn up the input (1/2 HW Input is already on max) then reply..
That's odd, I run a Virus C through an Audiophile into cubase SX and I have never encounted this problem. I take it you have your ASIO driver selected in Cubase Device setup. The only other thing I can think of right now is that the output for the card is set to -10dB in the Delta Control Panel under the Hardware settings tab.

Oh so it happens to you guys too? I thought I was the only victim, hehe. Yeah, the volume of the recording is way lower than the actual volume of the synth...really annoying. I have to normalize it in Cubase for it to sound normal. I check the input levels and all kinds of stuff but can't find the problem.

are you recording from the HW 1/2 In? If you're recording from the Mon Mixer it won't be quiet.. but it also wont record in stereo..
Yeah, from H/W in 1/2. I run it through a mixer first though to get the levels right so maybe that's the difference. Have you checked that everything is on full in the windows volume control (the speaker icon). I use to get lower levels of recording before wacking this up to full.

Still the recording is bad, there doesn't seem to be any recording levels in the Control Panel - ie. none show up, and only 3 playback volume levels are present. All levels are up full in the delta control panel, -10db isn't on. This is quite annoying

well... this is one of the reasons I've been thinking about upgrading to an EMU 1212m once I get the $$
That's really wierd. Its not the card that is at fault, there must be a setting somewhere that is wrong cos I have NEVER had any problems with my Audiophile... (except for running out of midi ports but I can't blame that on M-Audio can I)

hrrmm.. i am able to record at a much better volume now.. make sure your hardware is turned up almost to max and on the left of the cubase mixer, turn up the stereo in as high as it can go without clipping.. or you can put your normalizer on the stereo in..
