Keyboard and Bass to G5

I just got my new dual 1.8 ghz G5 and i have a midi keyboard and a bass i want to send into my comp when using garage band. what box can i buy that will let me plug in at least two midi and two 1/4 in plugs and then feed them into my computer via firewire (preferablly) or USB. i just want something that will let me send the keyboard and bass to my comp

You can get midi to USB cable, but i dunno any "box" that will let you do ALL of that, im sure there is one though! You might be able to get something like that from M-Audio, they make soundcards that are compatible with G5's and have midi input, and i was browsing this morning and saw a bunch of "boxes" that looked like they might do the trick.

btw ......... you suck ........... dual 1.8Ghz, G5, that shit cranks man, they really out perform any other computer. I have a new computer, but yours just dominates everything! (cept for the dual 2 Ghz of course )

What you need is called a USB Interface or Firewire Interface. SOmetimes it's also called a pro-sound-card.

They come in several choices... with 1 to 24 audio inputs and the same for midi.

Basically you need as many inputs and outputs as you want. They're made by EMU, EMAGIC, M-AUDIO, EDIROL, MOTU, etc. search up the official sites of those companies and you'll see what they got.

do you have any idea what youre talkinga bout?
there arent g4 powerbooks out yet, and if there would be. they would be 10 inches thick, and the battery would last for 2 minutes, let alone the heat problem

and g5 isnt that much better then g4, since 64bit applications arent really out yet

The G5 unfortunately dosent have a soundcard like a pc does which is why software like pro tools needs seperate software (synth plugins) or hardware (hard synths, instruments) to generate sounds unless of course you use something like Logic Pro or Digital Performer which have some soft synths included. There are several boxes available. Most people will be aware of the M-Box or 001 and 002 from DigiDesign but these boxes are designed to work only with Pro-Tools production software and have serious delay/latency problems when used with other sequencers i.e Logic Pro. The box i'm going for is the M-Audio Firewire 410. It won't work with Pro-Tools but i'll be using Logic Pro. Check out www.mediaspec.co.uk and if you're a student they will even give you a great discount on whatever you buy provided it's for "educational use". Top store for anything audio and computer related.

P.S, be aware that the m-box dosen't have a midi I/O although the 001 and 002 do. If you go down the m-box route you will need a midi/usb hub, MOTU do a nice one @ app. £120, which gives (if my memory serves me correctly) 128 midi channels. The M-Audio 410 however has "low-latency software monitoring; zero-latency direct hardware monitoring" unlike PC music programs where your soundcard and associated drivers are important in how well your audio applications will perform in terms of latency. Did I say PC, heuuuuch teeuuuuch!!!
