The Conet Project
Has anyone encountered this before? Freaky shortwave radio broadcasts that use short musical loops, number sequences and phoenetic alphabetics but their meaning is indecipherable. No-one knows who's broadcasting them or who they're being broadcasted to. They do sound pretty cool, though:

Whenever I listen to them I always imagine a lone radio, broadcasting them from some dark, dusty, abandoned (possibly haunted?) shed or something. They make for some addictive listening, but I wouldn't recommend listening to them before going to bed (I did that last night and my thinking was all out of whack - random tonal and number patterns reverberating through my head). I recommend the Swedish Rhapsody and Lincolnshire Poacher broadcasts from the first disc for sheer freakiness.

(Fwiw, this isn't some sort of X-Files, tin-foil hat conspiracy - you can actually listen in on these broadcasts if you're close enough and have the right equipment. Still, no-one's sure what they mean or what they're used for, so it's sure to get the conspiracy theorists going at some point. Personally, I just think they sound cool. )
