June 30th concerns?

do you have any?

events:
Fed Rate increasing a quarter (1/4) point (Interest Rates rising)
Iraqi "power" being "turned over" or "returned"
Summer Olympics and other terrorist threats on Americans
...etc.

as of right now, it is a week away, will any of this affect you?

I actaully read an article somewhere (can't remember where) that if the fed were to raise interest rates by 50 basis points rather than 25 than the market would react favorably. The reasoning being that it would void off speculative predictions of the fed trailing inflation risks through multiple rate increases by definitevely countering such risks ahead of time with a substantial rate increase.

With respect to the June 30 handover, I think markets would reeact favorably as well if the Iraqi PM manages to survive until then.

Regarding the fed increasing rates--I think for the most part the markets have already priced this in. I just bought a house, hopefully I caught rates at an inflection point and am getting something close to a long-term trough. In reality though, 1/4 of a point, while significant in that the Fed will finally be tightening things again, isn't that big a deal as the fed funds rate will still be just a bit over 1%.

Iraqi power being turned over --Sure, this is a concern to everyone and I hope it goes smoothly(as smoothly as can be realistically expected anyway).

Regarding the Olympics --Should be interesting. Hopefully we'll get a roof built on the stadium in time! I'm sure security will be beefed up, but I'm sure it will be tense no less. Big, populous events are always going to be targeted by those who capitalize on fear tactics and like to cause mayhem.

Although the raising interest rates may spark up the lending rates on houses etc. perhaps it will also cool the steaming house market a bit and make it more realistic for people who want to buy. I think the housing market is a bit due for a correction, I just hope its not a bubble.

Also since Greenspan has been hinting at raising rates for months now to combat any rising inflation rates (which he thinks right now arent too bad) the stock market seems to take his hinting into effect and rising or falling based on just what he says alone. When it finally does rise it may be welcome news because it will finally happen and no longer by speculation driving the market.

As for the other things like the Olympics, if Greece has tight enough security I don't forsee any problems. They've had years to plan for this and know its a possibility.

Handing over of power. I don't forsee anything changing because American troops are still there. In the elections in 2005 I think that will be the big test because we get to see what the people really want.

Are they prepared for say, god forbid, a plane flying into the middle of the main stadium while it's full?

Ah the irony! The longer they go without putting a roof on that stadium, the better the ability of a pilot to land a plane on the field! The less prepared they seem, the more prepared they must actually be!

Excellent! Although I wasn't really referring to a "land".
Of course- if that did happen- imagine all the money they saved by not completing the roof and if it does happen they double save by not having to rebuild. That must be their logic.

Seriously though - is that roof going to be done? lol

Roof, what roof? Maybe they should have AAA missile sites around the stadium.

I hear that they are forgoing the roof because they have erected an invisible force field around the stadium. Not only does it keep out airplanes but pesky insects as well.
