i never tried counting the beats in the first place and i usually try to play a record on one TT and da 2nd one i try to mix it with first one..at different points of da record where ever i feel like(sometimes in da begining some times in da middle ) n da problem i am having is that i couldn't keep da mix go long with out missig a lot. sometimes i mix very good n sometimes i suck really bad..
i don't know if iam doin it wrong by beatmatching wherever i feel like on da record. i don't know if it's a good practice for any body to start at a particular point on a record to mix with another record to make it sound good. i been spinning for about good 6 months and need some help.

What I do is try to get the incoming track matched to the track that is playing live as quickly as possible then i chill and wait for the point i want to line the phrases up at (usually after one of the breaks) then i cue it up on the first bass drum of the incoming track and pitch bend from there to keep it nice and smooth.

you should beatmatch your record ASAP, and then leave it running whilst you listen to the live one and the cued one in your headphones. i used to do this to get an idea of how well beatmatched they were, and what corrections needed to be done. eventually, you'll do it second nature, but doing it this way will help you train your ears. aside from that, make sure you phrase match them, sounds a lot better that way.

I think that it takes a lot of talent to be able to mix in from the middle of a track. I would stick to mixing in the beginings of the track until you can beatmatch solidly. It's not something that comes quickly either. You may think that you have it down pat, but just let others listen to it and you'll always find room for improvement.
