EFX software instead of EFX hardware module

My mixer has EFX Send & Return 1/4" jacks.

What PC software can do live EFX instead of a seperate hardware module?

Preferably professional applications.

I'm not speaking from experience, but my instinct tells me that there would be problems with certain kinda of effects due to the lag of your soundcard and your CPU. Still, I'd be interested to know the possibilities of software based effects processors

an hardware USB controller will solve that problem.

as far as i know ableton doesn't support the use of effects of the line-in of your pc. only on samples.

I've only played around w/ the demo of ableton... but I was using effects on the line in on my soundcard...

I had my DJ equipt hooked up to my m-audio ozone and was able to use effects on the mix...

The only problem was latency.... So I never could really get it to work right...

With the proper set-up you could probably do it, but for the amount of $$$ (good sound card & ableton) you would have to spend, the end result doesn't seem worth it.
