yet another one of my stories...
so this week has been nice. steve lawler spun 7 hours on wednesday here, me and my friends got together on thursday, got drunk. got together on friday, got drunk, went to club, got drunker, went to eat, went to park, got drunker, went home. saturday, went to park, got drunk, went home.
so to finish, we decide to come to my house today, spin and get drunk. you've all heard of my sound problems at least once, and this time, we proved that it was in fact the humidity, as today there was no rain, and the sound worked fine.
but then... well, we had 2 tech12 turntables, a stanton rm3-s mixer, and 2 americand audio cd decks. so, my friends spin for a good 3 hours on vinyl, then my other friend gets on his cd decks and drops a very amazing minimal techno set. then we continue to vinyl, and all is good for about 15 minutes. one of my friends (luckily, the owner of the decks) mixes from deck A to deck B. he goes to deck A and stops it. removes record, gets another, puts the needle on, and starts it. the deck starts normal, then starts speeding up like crazy, and just continues going. it was insane. not only that, once it started speeding up, no matter how many times you tapped stop, it wouldn't. you had to power it off.
it was like just plain ridiculous. the pitch was at 0, 33RPM, and you had the vinyls flying at like 200BPM and beyond. the other very weird occurance was when he tried backspinning it, and the deck went in REVERSE. the motor literally went backwards, although it only happened once. a friend banged on the platter a couple times, and the deck went back to normal functionality for like a minute or two.
anyone have any idea WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED? is it fixable? how much does it cost? and WHAT could have caused it? i had everything on connected on the same jack, and the only thing affected at any time was that deck, so i doubt it was electrical problems.
thanks for reading yet another boring "something fucked up" Inertia story, comments will be appreciated.
