This falls under a category parallel to the "set fillers" one for tracks designed for a specific purpose.
Obviously, it can make it sort of anti-climatic for a track to end with a raw beats-only 8-bar or 16-bar outro and then finish off with a kick drum, or kick drum with cymbal layered on top. If more EDM tracks had climatic, endings like the whole orchestral, symphonic shebang, then we'd be talking! Alternatively, the elements of the beat could begin to be stripped out on 4-bar rotations as a chill-out finisher, perhaps a reprise of the main melody (but softer ), rises up and everything calms down. Such pieces of music would be hard to put anywhere else in a set though, which of course limits their potential utility unless you did some tricky custom re-editing. It's not impossible, nor am I discounting any currently existing tracks -- I just want to hear more diversity and creative ways to end a set.
That being said, in recent memory, Orbital's "One Perfect Sunrise" sounds like a fantastic way to finish off a set, ambient wind-down and all.
