Im hoping this is the right forum for this question. I am going to production school in July and I need to get a personal computer. I know you should go with Apple but does anyone have specific models they use or know which is the best for production and home use? Thanks for the help.

Why is it, exactly, that one "should go with Apple"?

for a benchmark "duel" between Mac and PC... Though it is a graphic benchmark test it gives a good view what the computers are capable as graphic editing and rendering uses as much CPU (and other resources) as producing.
But after all performance wise there is very little difference between the two. The things you need to look at are the way you work and the way you feel.

Stability is the key, andyways, u cant deny the fact that MAC IS better in terms of producing..! and u dont have to worry about viruses..!
So true .... I can mind hearing that the CIA once stated 'if you do not want your computer to be hacked then get a Mac'
But the only reason I would get a Mac is so I could run Logic Audio 6 on it, but Cubase SX is just as good sooooo .... *waves ass at Apple and Emagic*

The only reason for Windows (PC) getting most of the viruses is the reason that it is so popular.
For example there haven't really been any viruses for Linux or Unix systems even though some of them run on PC. Creating a virus for Linux system isn't really worth the effort cause it wont really do much damage cause there just isn't so many linux boxes on the net than Windows'. Same goes for Macs.

I run a pc with floops n reason, i hate cubase, it pisses me off n if i had the money id get a mac running logic. It kicks ass over cubase. Thats all my opinion by the way, its up to personally taste. The freeze function fuckin rules in logic tho.

it's faster with video.. big frikken deal..
I work with all .wav files when producing so I can have a full song and be at only 50% CPU load (with all FX on)
you can't build your own MAC so they cost twice the price and getting software for them and gaming is a bitch.. not to meantion having to get used to a completly new OS..
I've used the newest MACs at school.. they're nothing great.. the end result still sounds the same..
