Exclamation Global Gathering Review

Holy fuck. Oakey fkn kicked ass. MO then slaps us with a legendary set. Lots of classics.

Guest line was pretty shit, moving slower than main line.

Crowd was awesome, lots of friendlies.

What a night. It took me 6 months to shake a bad experience at guv.
Im happy to say i enjoy partying there again.

Thanks

Try ticket master, as they'd released another block of tickets last night....they might still be available...

Holy fuck indeed... that was some wicked party. I didnt have any problem with guestline cause I went early for Dekoze's set. Dekoze ruled as always, cept for a few trainwecks and one time when he pressed the start/stop button on the turntable that was playing

Meanwhile in the Guv, MO was warming up the crowd for Oakie but his style of warming up is very different from Dekoze's... MO starts slow and builds it progressively (boring) while Dekoze just lays down banging tunes from start to finish... Im still a big MO fan, but his sets vary alot and he didnt do it for me tonight...

As for Oakie, cant say anything good or bad, I didnt see any of it! The guv was RAMMED for Oakie and there was no point trying to enjoy it w/o dancing room... On the other hand, in the KH there was plenty of room to dance, and Hawtin TORE IT UP!!! HOLY SHITE that guy can make the crowd dance... Cant wait to see him again... totally not what I expected. Magda, who was on after Dekoze and before Richie, was too boring... she played some somewhat acidy funky prog but most of it wasnt enough to get me dancing...

In the Drink, Krafty Kuts layed down some wicked tunes from what I heard, I spent most of that time in the KH...

On the SKYBAR... John Aquaviva... WOW.... fucking great... what a dj...he layed down some wicked house... couldnt get enough...

and then finally SVEN... meh... not so great, played some banging tunes for the most part but he was also some playing some less exciting techno, not my style... he still got me dancing for 3 hours but he wasnt close to how good Richie Hawtin was.

The crowd was wicked for this party, everyone seemed to come out for it, lots of eye candy, and tons of wicked dancers...

I give it a 9/10

Thx John for the reduced list

MY god this was sick...
Came in first the Kool Haus and saw Deko-ze destry it...proceeded with Magda - MAN SHE'S CUUUUUUUUUTE - Blew my brains out (and everybody elses). Then I went to see the opening of Oakenfold and stayed there for almost 2 hours...holly fuck Oakie redeemed himself as far as I'm concerned....amazing set...second song

SCHILLER - DAS GLOCKENSPIEL I nearly died right there!!

Came back to the KH saw a bit of Hawtin who was good but something kept skipping - recod wise...
Went to the skybar and just relaxed...saw some pretty girls but all were with guys sucks about that!

Came down again into the KH and saw Vath aboslutely RIP THAT MOTHER DOWN...holly smokes he was AMAZING! I loved his shirt "Good music, I dance, No good music, I not dance" Left early to catch some sleep and now i'm off to see Armin on the boat...WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO pics will be later

this party rocked from the beginning till the end....and what a great morning it was outside...didint expect much from Paul Oakenfold but he fuckin ROCKED the place....i wasnt there for the whole set but when he played LE ROCK 01 the whole place went insane....

Richies set was also amazing comparing to some of his stuff i heard b4...had a chance to talk to him and get his autograph

...also Sven Vath proved to be a good replacement for Cox....

admittedly, SCHILLER - DAS GLOCKENSPIEL was the tune of the night. oakenfold opened with li kwan - point zero (2003 remix?) and then into das glockenspiel! he played his typical set.

however, sven vath was the man! great techno, great to dance to. crazy tired. i went from dave matthews straight to guv. danced until 6:30am. drove my mom to work! took a nap, and here i am!

to those at armin and tenaglia, hope they are owning.

lastly, HAPPY CANADA DAY!

got infront of guv at around 11, met john to get my ticket (w007!) and upon seeing how long the comp tickets line was, john let me just pass right through! nothing like a line bypass thanks bro!

coatchecked my shiz, got into KH and realized i forgot to get my camera out of my bag. this would be one of the many trips to coatcheck to retreive something forgotten great thing was, the nice girl behind the counter gave me no flak whatsoever each time i needed to get something. great service there

got into KH just as Deko-Ze was finishing up (wow! old george micheal/slam remix!)

now it was time for Magda. haven't seen or heard her before, but imo she played a good chill set. not the greatest for a warmup, but it was a very nice electro-prog kinda feel to it. plus she was mad cute, so naturally i was enjoying it right near the end of her set she started either playing crazy percussive tracks, or was fooling around huge on final scratch, cuz the sound was amazing: all the different ranges of beats, high hats, at really different intervals. that impressed me.

on to richie. now, i wasn't expecting much since his performance at turbo back in Nov 2002... but now i can see why people travel all over just to hear him.

THE MAN TORE IT UP! massive buildups! unique breakdowns! sick looping! the man had the place going nuts! too bad about the skipping problem tho. i saw them replace a needle, but even after that it happened a couple more times. but honestly, even with that problem, the set was a huge success. in typical richie fashion, only a few tracks were trainspottable:

misc - flow control (first track, a beautiful opener)
technasia - acid storm (TUNE!)
dk8 - murder was the bass (last track, and he mashed it up good!)

got richie to sign my flyer from Nov 2002, (should've brought a silver marker, cuz i can't see shit, lol) 'the sound of the third season' cd insert, and i got a pic (heavily overexposed, wtf... )

now it was time for the master, that is sven väth. i was expecting a heavy electro track influence, going by his prior set lists, but man oh man, he pulled out the good stuff!!! i don't ever remember dancing that hard! he just kept throwing it at us at one point, it was crazy; hard banging techno his track selection was unbelieveable, pulling out some of the sickest techno and electro i have ever heard! i was in disbelief at one point.. overloaded with unknown techno goodness.. even tho i am COMPLETELY exhausted, i would jump at the chance to see that set again right now.. unbelieveable.

i composed a tracklist of some sorts, and it helped that i had my minidisc full of väth's sets to listen to on the busride home to help id.

misc - flow control
richard bartz - feed the flame
joachim spieth - use case
jake fairley - blood from a stone (possibly?)
the micronauts - high rise (TUNE OF THE NIGHT!)
dave clarke - just ride
tonio & david carretta - my telephone is dead
dave clarke presents chicks on speed - what was her name (lfo remix)
alter ego - rocker
al ferox & tonio - bionik

as well, there's a few tracks that i heard in some other sets that aren't id'd, and they are killer!

( a wicked track that has a siren sound that builds up huge.. really high energy.. it's track 13 in his timewarp 2004 set, and track 22 in his goa club, rome set )

( old-sounding synths bassline, really simple, with a vocal sample saying "my mind is ..." going through it. starts off ambient then movies into nice percussive techno. track 19 in his Xcess Powerzone set [03-26-2004] )

and sven's final track, it's SOOOOOOOO familiar. should be able to find it tonight.. very nice proggy track.. sucked that he had to fade it out when it was just getting good, but oh well.

got my cd insert signed too, but lol, sven signed ON TOP of richie's signature! :stongue :stongue :stongue just a mish mash of strokes, which is what it would be anyways

pics should be up soon.. i forgot my extra battery at home, so i had to be selective with the shots..

shouts to the TAs that showed up for this: John, Ben, Rob, Val & Mike (i think..) .. i missed the meetup

and yes, i realize this is a long-winded review, but i don't care.

MR. VÄTH PWN3D J00 & M3 !!
