I thought it would be cool to see which vsti is the most cpu intensive so that people that have computers with lower specs can watch out for them. So I made a poll with the following more popular vsti synths:
1) V-Station
2) Vanguard
3) z3ta+
4) Superwave Pro
5) Superwave Trance
6) Absynth 2
7) Atmosphere
8) Pro-53
9) Albino 2
10) FM7
11) impOScar
12) Scorpion 4
13) VAZ 2010
14) Pentagon
15) Hydra


Please take a poll and we'll see which vsti will become "CPU EATING KING"

Also, as somebody mentioned, a person would need all of the vstis in the poll in order to make an accurate choice. Therefore, make a decision based upon your comparisons with other vstis that you own.

In addition, if you want to be more accurate, post a reply with all the vstis that you use and which one out of those uses cpu the most. You can even order them from most to least if you want.

ps. sorry if I forgot any additional popular vsti.

the vanguard will fuck ur computer over if u have the full 16 voices and envelopes set to max with all the effects on.

i cant see the v station being a CPU intensive synth... nor a pro 53...

it all depends on ur computer setup really, if u got a shit computer setup then ur gunna struggle to get a good sound out of what u got.

This is a good idea for a poll. I only have Vanguard out of the above list, and I think the problem you may run into is that unless you own ALL of these synths then you can't really rate them.

Besides... what about TRIANGLE II?

You're right, so it won't be that accurate. But, out of the ones you try you will notice which ones take up more cpu.
Sorry for not including triangle 2, i guess its similar to pentagon and probably has similar preformance.

Z3ta has go to be the winner ... even some of its default presets can max out any cpu ... and that is before you enable x2 oversampling

I've used absynth, atmosphere, zeta, and superwave pro...

and by far, i think the CPU hog is superwave pro...

it uses up huge amounts of CPU it makes it up by its great "supersaw" type sound...

just 4 instances of it and my computer's CPU is maxed out... 2.4ghz and 1028 mb ram

Superwave Performer is a cpu hog. It uses around 16% while idle (not playing anything). Also the v-station sucks up a lot of cpu.

One of the bigger CPU hogs is not on that list and that is the CS-80V by arturia. I believe there is a sticker on the back of the box that says "your CPU can go to hell". In standalone mode, I've had it run over 50% of my CPU pressing one key.

You forgot Crystal, a freeware synth by GreenOak, and Superwave Performer, who can eat up a cpu in a blink of an eye. I guess no one here uses them, but they might start to

I don't consider fm7, pro53, nor pentagon cpu hogs - they were launched when cpus were running at 1 ghz max, so the could not really afford to be cpu hogs.

I definitly agree with you. With some presets I can't play more than one note at a time on my old XP 1800+.

crystal is such a weird VST, but its a great fx device, can create many weird moving sounds..

and yes frankly it eats alot of cpu, but i think zeta mite even be more of an eater.
