Hey

i know i should search it up but its 3.21 am and am eating coockies coz i can't sleep

Now i have a question lately.

There is this thing on soundforge called a Multiband compressor, i saw the word time by time on this section.

But i always wonderd, what does it do exactly? obviously it compress, but what makes it so different than a normal compressor.

How does a multiband compressor affect the sound? quality? and peak levels?

And last question, can anyone who has any experience, recommand me to use this tool more often or just leave it? and if use, can you give me some basic settings for trance 137-142 bpm..

I'm surprised you're not using this!! Its almost an essential.
It a compressor only, like an Equalizer, you can compress up to 4 ranges in the spectrum...each one uniquely.
Great for mastering!

i need someone to explain me what an multiband compressor does, AND how to use it.

Also if i use a multiband compressor, do i use a normal compressor again?(talkin in soundforge view, reason has no multiband compressor.)

Massive84, multiband-compressing can be done in Reason m8! Don't ask me how, but Robert Nickson told me he also uses it from time to time.
If i'm correct there should be a file on www.propellerheads.se

Yeah it can be done in Reason using vocoders, compressors and the audio spider. Though, if you want to do it in mastering purpose I recommend doing it outside Reason, with for exampel Waves C4. The vocoders add some strange noises (atleast for me :P)

It takes your initial sound, splits it up into 4 bands (like a parametric eq does) and instead of boosting that frequency, like a parametric eq, it compresses it. so its like having 4 compressors set up side by side, but they only compress a specific frequency in your sound.

Its very easy in Reason. With Reason can make even 4 band compression
I use it to compress Kick and Bassline....

well i wanne do it outside reason, am not gonne waste cpu on 4 vocoders and stuff..

am curious what multibandcompressing do as a mastering tool, and how to use it..and how does it affect peak levels, sound quality and the sound it self?

Just write in google "multiband compresion" and search for illustrations and grate tutorials!
