You can sit here and chastise Bush all you want for not going to the event. But Julian Bond made the following outrageous comments, and has yet to offer an apology. No one should be cajoled by the press into going to an event full of that much hatred.
The NAACP can rot in their own self-serving liberal ghetto until they actually act non-partisan like their tax status states that they should be.
FYI, Bush has been working with many lesser known black leaders, because they actually take moderate and reasonable stands on the issues. Check out Project 21, B.O.N.D., Congress of Racial Equality, etc.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — Republicans appeal "to the dark underside of American culture, to that minority of Americans who reject democracy and equality," NAACP Chairman Julian Bond said yesterday at the civil rights group's 94th annual convention.
"They preach racial neutrality and practice racial division ... their idea of reparations is to give war criminal Jefferson Davis a pardon," Mr. Bond said during his welcoming remarks. "Their idea of equal rights is the American flag and Confederate swastika flying side by side."

+++++++++ Hey Imokruk you seem to make it sound like what Mr. Bond said was a distinct, innacurate and profound fallacy. I ask you this question if people feel they have a right to display visages of the confederate symbol in society, then there are others with just as much right to speak up against it because for whatever heritage it may mean to some Southerners, it has a different meaning to others, let's not kid ourselves on that fact. I have never been to the South personally and don't believe it is as horrible today as in the past for blacks. The NAACP had just a little bit of a role in bringing that about, along with other afformentioned black groups in your previous post. Bush may not respect elements in the NAACP but as is his policy with dealing with others who he doesn't take a likeing to he behaves as a first rate Jackass in his attitudes. This is the man that you respect as President, shake my head.

Why does he have to go? He's talked about equal rights for minorities many times before including the Latin and Black communities. God the dude turns down an invitation and suddenly hes rascist and doesn't care about black people. My god, i hope you people aren't this sensitive in your normal every day lives or you'd never be able to leave your house in the morning. |
Thank you very much the key word being "TALKED" He also talked about Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq, he talked about no child left behind, he talked about Al Qaeda in Iraq, he talked about American jobs moving overseas as a positive thing, talk, talk, talk. All the man does is talk, his actions however serves his masters, the Corportate World. This you cannot deny under any circumstance.
P.S. I never labelled Bush a racist, I try to stay away from that form of commentary on people until I know them. With Bush I just let his talking say it all. I'm sure he has a keen interest in providing more federal funding to improve the schools in urban, innercity areas. Too bad thanks to his talk many schools are still waiting, while vouchers are given out to a few and the rest will make do with the available resources.
