Rogers Hi-Speed Internet Extreme

Has anybody actually tried this yet...there is a hefty installation charge of around 80$..And rogers website states the following which is quite decent...

'Up to 5.0 Mbps download; 800 Kbps upload'

Any feedback??

I just got it a couple of days back. Only cost around $80 ( split 2 ways so it wasn't that bad ) and the installation was nothing more then just returning the old modem you have, and getting a new, 'uncapped' one in return.

Regarding the speeds -- well i'm on a farily low traffic hub so was able to test run and download up to 500 kb/s. The upload was in the range of 80kb/s - 100 kb/s which wasn't bad either. A speed test did show that the download wasn't infact 5mb/s but more closer to 3.6 mb/s...which is still not bad at all.

sounds nice! There are 3 packages the budget one where its under 25$, basic that costs 40$ and the one you mentioned. I have basic and there is no need really to upgrade to the high end package when it doesn't deliver that much more.

i had it. i found that for personal use, there's really no point in the extra $40.

just go with the standard hi-speed.

It's a one time fee of $80 for the new modem. It is not $80 per month!

This is true, and basically the $80 is just to get a uncapped cable modem...everything else remains the same, just go get the new modem, come back and you're on an Xtreame connection

i just bring my current modem to a rogers store (like at scarborough town centre) and go up to someone and ask them for the xtream modem? and they'll actually know what I'm talking about?

edit: just read the info on their site. you have to activate your current acct to an extreme acct with them AND get the new modem which can be arranged for a technician to come by...sounds like a good deal for the extra speed

Ok, I'll run through the steps it took for me to upgrade from hi speed to extreme.

1) Call up Rogers store and tell them you wish to upgrade from hi speed to extreme. Then ask them if they have the extremem modem in stock.

2) If they do, go and pick up the moden. Pay the $80 and return the old one you have. The process will take approx 5 minutes.

3) Return home, plug in the modem, and there you have it. You now have extreme internet access. You don't have to change any settings, hardware etc... approx 2 mins

This is for users going from hi-speed to extreme. Not sure what the procedure is like for other packages. All I know is for $80 one time modem replacement ( and upgrade actually ) this is a great deal. Even the monthly rates don't change, so unless you really have something in mind for 80 bones, the change from 350 kb/s to 3mb/s download and 40 kb/s to 200-300 kb/s for upload is definately worth it.

Had mine up and running in 2 hours from deciding to upgrade to being online with Extreme. No appointments with rogers tech people, or installation of any hardware.
