Talking Finally gave in...bought the Denon DN-X1500

I finally got it yesterday....all I can say is that it is an amazing mixer (compared to my old trusty Vestax 170)....Still trying to figure it out.....and the features are pretty cool...especially the effects....will post a review soon, but I will be gladly to answer any questions you guys have....and about the slow fader problems, I think that u can set it up through some settings in the mixer to make it more responsive, as u can taylor everything to ur needs. Also everything in the mixer is adjustable, including the frequncies of the Hi, mid, and low, which I find is pretty cool...but me not at home now.....will try more things and post later!!

Well I am still not home so can't really give that much stuff on it as of yet.....I got it yesterday and only played with it for about an hour.....In respect to comparisons, I have mixed on many other mixers, Djm 500/600, A&H 62, couple of stantons, and lots of different Vestax mixers. How does it compare so far?....it has the sound quality of an A&H 62 (the only really differnce is that the 62 does sound alittle warmer than the 1500, but that due to the digital nature of the 1500, but well worth it for unlimited software upgrades), Using the mixer?, layout is close to the Djm 600, but with smaller knobs, that are spaced out a little more than the DJM. Price?....I paid $1200cdn at an local store here in Vancouver, and they were the only store that had one in stock . Feel of the mixer?...AWSOME!!...feels sturdy and solid. The only draw back I see is the known problem of the slow x-fader and up-faders, I still haven't tried differnet settings in the user presets yet, so can't really comment on it yet. But to my knowledge this problem has already been addressed by denon and an update is (hopefully) due out this August.

Feel free to ask me more!!.....since I do know that there aren't that many reviews of this mixer.

Oh...this mixer kicks my pmc170 ass anyday..hahah....but i will still keep it for back-up...since I used it for more than 3 years now...

Okay now...my review after a week of use:

Pro's I found:

-The matrix input system is amazing, for those that do not know what it is, the matrix system allows u to use one source for any channel at any given time, meaning, I can have one source on all four channels at once!!...I find this is way cool
-Effects are awsome sounding and smooth (especially the looping echo!!), they do not really over power the sound at all.
-The user preset function, you can customize how u want ur mixer (ie. set the freq. of the hi, mid, and low, to what u want, turn on or off certain effects..etc)
-In the back of the mixer there is a set screw where u can adjust the maximum gain output of the master signal. (I find this is usefull where u have those certain DJ's that jsut crank everything to the max, where now the max is where u set it and can only changed through the back of the mixer. (So u can protect ur equipment from blowing up)
-Output of the mixer is very clean, no apparent hiss at high volume with no signal (unlike the DJM )
-user upgradable software (since this mixer to my knowledge is software driven) and effects through USB
-no apparent channel bleed as of yet (still new, and I don't expect any cuz the mixer works in digital)
-all the knobs and sliders feel solid (soo far) and the knobs are the rubbery kind, like the allen&heath style

Con's

-the headphone output has a hiss in the background, but does not increase with the volume, so when music is playing through the headphones it drowns it out.
-the x-fader and line faders are relatively slow (or not as reponsive, no matter what setting u do in the user presets)
-because of the digital nature of the mixer I find that cds sound like cds, and vinyl sounds like cds
-mixer does tend to get pretty warm, but not hot, after about 45 minutes of use.

That's all I can think of for now, will post more when I find more things, most of the con's will be fixed according to Denon through the new software update due out (I think) Aug 11th 2004)

Oh and my setup is as follows:

Denon DN-X1500
2xTech M3D
Shure Whitelabels
Numark CDN-88 Dual Cd Player

I heard the update is going to fix the slow fader response, and the headphone noise. Im sure about the fader part, but im not really sure if i beleive that an update is going to fix the headphone noise issue.
