High Quality Needles

I've an eliptical needle, stanton cartridge, but due to some "cymbol hiss" I'm curious to check out some other high quality ones. As I am picky about my audio and the quality of recording from my vinyl

So, what are the best ones out?

I would recommend Shure WhiteLables. A bit pricey, but worth it IMO.

If you are not really DJ'ing with your vinyl, then definitely go with an eliptical cart, as you already have. There are higher quality audiophile needles out there that give phenomenal audiophile sound, but don't look for these carts in a DJ shop. Do a google search and see what you find for audiophile carts. If you are DJ'ing, then go with Whitelabels, as the sound is great for a spherical needle, and the vinyl wear is non-existent. I'm not a fan of ortofon carts for one reason...they sound great, but they eat vinyl pretty quick due to their requirement for high tracking forces.

Shure V15VxMR Ultra High Accuracy Cartridge

Since the advent of "high-fidelity," the Shure V15 Series has been the standard by which all other cartridges are measured - literally! Though the use of words like "standard" and "reference" has become commonplace in the audio press, one must consider the source. In this case, there are truly meaningful sources. To cite just a few:

SHURE BROTHERS, the inventor of the moving magnet cartridge, is also the company that introduced the first successful stereophonic phonograph cartridge to the world in 1958.

STEREOPHILE MAGAZINE, the premier audiophile publication in the United States, selected the V15VxMR as the Analog Source of the Year runner up in 1997, the year this model was introduced. (Note: the category winner was a turntable.) December 1997
GRAMOPHONE MAGAZINE, the most respected audiophile publication in the United Kingdom, awarded the V15VxMR its "Audio Choice" designation for being "Outstanding in terms of performance and value." The V15VxMR was the only cartridge to receive this award for 1997. January 1998
SONY MUSIC has selected the V15VxMR as the reference cartridge for their archival operations - one of the very few contexts we know of where the term "reference" has real meaning.
The V15VxMR is one of the best performing cartridges on the market (i.e. provides the most accurate and natural, resonance-free sound reproduction). There are real, tangible reasons for why this is, as explained below.
It is also one of the most attractively priced on the market. When Shure responded to the market by reviving the V15 Series in 1997, we once again priced it fairly. This is the Shure tradition; this is our commitment to serious music lovers worldwide.
As a result, the V15VxMR is a very high-value product. There is no need to pay more for the best in analog reproduction
V15VxMR - audiophile - extremely accurate

Features:

Stylus Mass: Ultra Low
Diamond Stylus Tip: Micro RidgeTM
Sound Accuracy: Ultra High
Record Wear: Ultra Low
Key Features: Dynamic Stabilizer Brush
Beryllium Cantilever

Shure V15VxMR Ultra High Accuracy Cartridge

$325.00 USD each. We've sold quite a few of these already and peeps just love them.

in my books the top 2 carts for djing would be the shure whitelabel, and ortofon concodes (any type rocks). the whitelabels are the expensive one of the 2, but you definitely get your moneys worth with them, the styli last a long time too!

Hmmm..

So, there will be absolutely no harsh cymbol hiss or any bad effects when I use this needle on my vinyl?

Yep, Whitelabel made by Shure. Also DJ Tranz posted a bad ass audiophile cart above which might interest you just for recording and normal playback.

the sound quality & output is very high, especially considering the ultra-low stylus pressure.. i think its 1.5 - 3.5g which means low record wear. also you will find it hard to get it to move out the groove, which is great for djing.

however, if you arn't djing, there are carts which give you much better sound quality from your vinyl.
