recording vinyl to computer

Like many of you (I suspect), I have begun to try to record my vinyl records onto the computer so that I can eventually burn them into CD format. What I have noticed is that with practically all my records it sounds as though they are eq'd slightly differently than the songs that I rip straight from CD.

For example: I have Andain - Beautiful Things on both CD (maxi) and vinyl record. I recorded the song from vinyl through my mixer onto my computer, and compared the CD and vinyl versions next to each other. The CD version seems to be slightly more crisp and have clearer high hats and vocals.

For your information, I'm using 2 TT-200s, a Numark PPD-01 (24 bit digital), and two Shure Whitelabels, so I don't think it's a problem with my equipment.

So do any of you guys have any ideas how to remedy this situation? Or is it something that I'll just have to live with, where all the vinyl records will seem to have slightly different eq'ing?

Yes, unfortunately, they will always sound a bit different, due to the digital -> analoge -> digital -> analogue factor.

you can reduce this problem by getting VERY good equipment, but you've already got pretty good stuff, so i wouldn't worry about it.

You'd probably need to spend thousands on an audiophile preamp to get it to sound closer, and it's still never going to be exact.

hmmm. Well, not what I was hoping to hear, but thanks for the info. At least now I know I'm not really doing something wrong!
