Aren't musically incapable parents annoying?

For example, this kind of stuff:

I'm listening to Aphex Twin. Then my father comes in, and "What the hell is that crap you are listening to?"
"Great music"
"What... that's not music! IT's just a guy playing random sounds!"
"As a matter of fact, many people think he is a genius"
"Genius, my ass! I could make music like that myself!"

Yeah. I'd like to see that.

Anyways, does anyone else have this slight problem?

Not with parents (I don't live at home anymore,) but with random people when I play it at my house, or at parties!

"What's this crap, they just press a bunch of buttons and say weird stuff... that takes no talent."

I have even challenged them to try doing it themselves. No one has complied.

my dad actually appreciates my music..he often comes in and listens to me mix

hell i like his music too..

miles davis..weather report...rolling stones..
(miles davis - bitches brew is such an amazing record..same with that tribute one..forgot its name) anyone take a liking to this stuff besides trance?
all good music

hehe i tried mixing some acapella rolling stones into some songs...hehe does NOT work

thing is my dad is VERY judgemental on the music and he has this tendancy to explain how easy it is to create the sounds (he has a extensive electronic and music backround) he just breaks down ever little bit of a song..its just annoying sometimes

Whenever me and my dad go out to lunch or somewhere in the car, i have my music playin, he calls it "pots and pans", which i tried explaining to him is probably truer of techno, than trance or house. So one day i ask him to bring a CD he likes listening to, and it's Funk and Disco! Which I explain to him has pretty much the exact same structure as house (and house evolved from it as well). No go.

As fresh prince once said...

"Parents Just don't Understand"

My mother, on the other hand, I've found recently that she likes hard house.

Fookin crazy, thought if anything trance would be more up her alley.

My parents joke about hating what I listen to. They've actually admitted to dancing to it in clubs in Vegas, though I'm willing to bet that it was either techno or cheese.

My grandmother likes my music; it's not her taste, but she really likes some of the melodies, but if I put a more tech-trance track on, she'll say something along the lines of, "Now this isn't music... Just a bunch of random notes, that make no sense."

My mom has admitted to liking a couple of Gabriel & Dresden tunes, and liked the vocals in Skin - Faithfulness (Tiësto Remix).

I had four of my CDs in my dad's five-disk changer, three of them Tiësto and one Dieselboy. He put one of his CDs in, and when his was over, he didn't bother to hit the stop button. He said he liked the really melodic/chilled one (Nyana, Disc 2), but hated the "Matrix one" (Dieselboy).

My mommy doesn't care for most of it, but the old man digs most of what I listen to. He tells me to record and burn my mixes for him.

Twisted: Miles Davis is an incredible musician. Kind Of Blue is without a doubt his best work, in my opinion, but all of the others are also quite good.

my parents are pretty cool, they dig most of what i listen to, of course, only when it's in the area of house/trance/prog. if i play something too hard, they won't like it. i've recently found they dig breaks too.

what DOES piss me off is when my dad starts talking shit as if he knew wtf he was talking about, or tries to devalue the artists, comparing a producer against an old singer, kinda peeves me. or, when he can admit he is wrong about it and is in fact talking out his ass. haha

My dad likes Gabriel and Dresden remixes, I have a CD of them in my car and he was driving it one day after I had left it in the stereo, got out and said he liked most of the songs. He was a big Annie Lennox fan, and the fact that one of the remixes was Pavement Cracks probably helped.

But then I was watching my Tiesto in Concert DVD, and he criticises DJs cos "they get rich playing other peoples music". Don't worry that they also produce themselves, and that becoming no 1 in the world takes god knows how much skill............

They were also really supportive when I took up DJing and spent craploads of money on a (cheap) setup

Yes, Miles Davis is amazing. His Porgy and Bess album is the definition of perfect.

Anyway.

My mom calls trance "mind-numbing music". Needless to say, she doesn't like it. And my dad just refers to it as "wordless music".. he doesn't care for it either. Oh well though. They like plenty of good music (Stones, Beatles, CSN&Y, Jefferson Airplane, Sinatra, etc) for me to forgive them.
