Dunno Why can't I create this warm pad with the Supersaw VSTi (mp3 clip inside)?!

Hi,

Can anybody please show me if it is possible to recreate following JP8000 pad with the Supersaw VSTi cause I can't get the sound right. It could be my old soundcard's fault, but I also have an XG softsynth installed and with that one I can easily reproduce following sound, so why can't I do it with the Supersaw VSTi which should sound better?! Perhaps my old soundcard doesn't work well with VSTi's. That's what I try to find out.

Could people who have the Supersaw VSTi try to exactly recreate following pad sound so I know if it's possible or not: http://users.skynet.be/soundfiles/promise.mp3 This is most likely done with a JP8000, right? It's the intro of Kate Ryan's "The Promise you made" and the chords I think are:

mi-la-do
mi-sol-do
fa-la-do
mi-sol-do
(and repeat as much as you want)

Start with the filter exactly like in the original (dark and warm) for quite a while to hear the warmth and then slowly make it sweep a bit to full open where it should sound bright and still full. Ignore the guitar and other stuff that comes in. The focus is on the pad.

Is it possible to get the same warmth and body like the original with the Supersaw VSTi. Don't know if they used any effects (perhaps a bit of reverb and stereo widener).

Please post mp3 of your best attempt! Thanks to anybody who wants to help with this!!

what kind of chords are this?

but the sound is very simple.. it's a normal supersaw with a LPF and a long attack and release..

Those are simply the notes (like do, re, mi, fa, sol, etc..) that are in the chord, so "mi-la-do" chord obviously has "mi", "la" and "do" in the chord. Are people not familiar with this way of writing chords or am I doing it wrong? Please let me know!

Perhaps using letters makes it easier to understand? Here you go:

E-A-C (mi-la-do)
E-G-C (mi-sol-do)
F-A-C (fa-la-do)
E-G-C (mi-sol-do)

Does this make it more clear? Please tell me what was confusing!

Apart from that, could people PLEASE post an mp3 of recreating what I requested above with the Supersaw VSTi. I can't see what I could be doing wrong with the programming as it seems simple to make, but the thing is I can't get that sound quality and want to know if it's my soundcard's fault or not. As I said, the XG softsynth I have, made this sound almost perfect, so why can't I get the same sound with the Supersaw VSTi. Please help! Thanks!

Nobody at all who can do the above test with the Supersaw VSTi and post an mp3. I really want to know if it is my soundcard that makes VSTi's sound bad or not. Thanks!!

there is no way to make this sound with supersaw. these are most likely sampled strings, or one much more complicated string patch than supersaw is able to do. i don't think that single oscillator synth like supersaw is able to make this. supersaw is pretty good at what it does, but it still is a one trick pony.

I take it you mean the VST synth made by RB2K. It might not be the best for complex pads since it doesn't have any routing possibilities, but the pad in your clip sounded like a pretty standard supersaw pad. Try to lengthen the attack and release of the amp envelope. Take the mix slider all the way to the top and the detune slider around 50%. You can also apply some subtle lfo. Effects are also important. In the clip I have here I added eq, reverb, delay and a sonic exciter (stereo widening). It's not perfect at all, but I just put this together in 10 minutes to show that it's possible. I'm sure you can come closer with some careful tweaking.

Hi Fatboy!

Thanks very much for posting the mp3. Which EQ settings did you use by the way. How did you get your sound so bright with the filter open. If I put the filter full open, it doesn't sound that bright.

Also, which sonic exciter did you use to enhance the sound?

Thanks in advance for the info!
