Im not sure about the second but I can help a little on the first one. The power the speakers can handle normally is the RMS power and the peak power is the amount of power it can handle in short bursts. When buying an amp for your speakers you should try to match the RMS power of the amp and speakers first. This is more important. Then try to come as close as you can to peak power.

I am not entirely sure of this but I heard that you have a higher chance of damaging speakers underpowering them than overpowering them. But dont over power them much. I think it has something to do with the speaker not being able to cool itself properly. I used to have a 100W sub in my car powered by a 125W amp and never had any problems. But like I said I am not entirely sure if this is true. Has anyone else heard of this?

Yea with the first question, having a more powerful amp hooked up to ur speakers is safer than having a weak amp - just means that if you have a 200watt amp in 100watt speakers, you don't wanna crank the shit outta the amp.

Having a weaker amp means more opportunity for clipping - the amp can't handle the transients in the music (sudden peaks in the music which basically require extra power) and sends out a distorted signal the speakers. The distorted sound means a higher average amount of power running through the speakers leading to them blowing.

This is all pretty basic and light-on...this is because i can't remember everything that came in this little "Speaker Care" pamphlet that was shipped to us from JBL along with two tweeters which i blew.

so if i upgrade my 125each speakers to say 300each im gonna need to upgrademy 100each channel amp quite a lot???
