The jp 8080 has a 10 voice poly and the 8000 has a 8 voice poly.

I don't know about the supernova. But about the JP series, I'm searching myself for a good synth atm. And of course I can't get past these two. So I read a load of articles. I can't remember which one of them has the keyboard on it, but I woukld pick that version. Not the rack mount. It has a mod wheel and some stuff which is really really fun to play around with. The sound of both is comparable I'm guessing from what the articles say.

Ive got a jp8000, in my eyes its better to touch the keys of this machine. But i recommend the supernova 2, because u can use 4 patches at the same time ( 4 sounds in 1 time). And that machine has more new sounds in it. When you still searching for a synth try also the waldorf Q. Thats the number 1 synth for me.

Supernova II (rack or Kbd) has a lot of features, much more than the JP80x0.

SNII:
- Vocoder with 42 bands
- Multimode filter with 12/18/24 dB (LPF/HPF/BPF+nine special filters)
- Filter self-oscilating with overdrive (Waldorf Q and Virus B/C have something like that)
- 3 Oscillators with virtual sync (ARE 3 osc slave AND 3 osc master -
Viruses/Q/JP80x0 etc. don't allow that, only 1 osc can be synced)
- There are some parameters to control (fine tune) the sync process
- It has Unison+detune (ok, several synths have that), but it has a feature called VCO DRIFT -> Unison+detune+VCO drift = phaaaaat sound
- The effects are awesome (comb filters rocks!)
- Matrix modulation is a bad joking (it isn't a Microwave XT/Q or Viruses), but is better than JP80x0
- Arpeggiator is great and very fun (there are preset AND USER patterns!)
- "Double saw" waveform isn't a "JP80x0's supersaw", of course, but it is a monster when stacked in the performance mode:
1 patch with 3 osc (3 double saw = 6 saw's) + detuned + unison (8 voice) + vco drift + chorus + reverb + delay
Now, you get this patch and stacks it (3 patches * 8 voices = 24 voices) obs: my SNII has 24 voices ;-(
- You can have 56 effects in the performance mode
- FM synthesis with 3 operators (generally, you can only have 2 operators - but Nord Lead III has 4 operators - yes, it's an exception)
- 2 Ring modulators (generally you get only one)

JP80x0:
It's a great machine for trance, and it has THE "Supersaw" waveform...
but, in overall, SNII is much better than JP80x0.

I have a SNII and I love it, but I think the Virus C is the better VA in the market.

My (personal) VA rank:
1. Virus C
2. Waldorf Q (still expensive)
3. Supernova II
4. Nord Lead 3
5. JP8080
6. Nord Lead 2
7. PLG150-AN (AN1x plug-in board - it has a MULTISAW waveform - it needs a hard host, like CS6x or Motif)

Waldorf micro-Q is very similar to Q, except that it doesn't have
sequencer and morphing filters.
Yes, the JP8080 has more features than JP8000: 10 voices (JP8000 has 8), vocoder with 12 bands and external inputs for processing other synths, drum machines etc.

yay
here we go again
it's possible to recreate rank1 sounds with every synth offering saw's and unison
I'd go for the supernova anyway, jp has only 1 (2 ?) parts where you can use the supernova for several parts. Like sonic says in performance mode the sn is a real beast, much, much more power than the jp.

I had to choose 2 years ago between the micro q and the jp which were the same price used and I got the mircro q coz it's much more powerfull and everybody has the jp. I didn't regret it for 1 second yet.
