Along with my manager Charlie and another couple of friends we hit Amnesia at 2am, and perched ourselves on a terrace overlooking the very packed dancefloor. On the one hand I'm keen to make this column interesting, on the other I don't want to court too much controversy. Suffice to say the main room set from one of the world's most famous dj's was one of the worst I've heard in a very long time. Not only did he fail to play a single track that you'd remember five minutes later, he generated no atmosphere, mixed without passion and looked utterly bored. In a holiday environment I was astonished to hear not even one or two tunes with the faintest degree of familiarity, especially in a 5000 capacity club. I've been dj'ing a long time, and the way I've kept my career buoyant is by trying to remain tuned in to the mood of the crowd at all times (although clearly it's impossible to get things right on 100% of occasions.) I couldn't believe how removed one of the biggest so-called 'Superstar dj's' was from the atmosphere on the dancefloor. The minute the following (younger, hungrier) dj started his set the atmosphere changed out of all recognition, but by that point I'd been put on a downer, and we left half an hour later. My precious social night out spoiled by one of the most disappointing sets I've heard in a long time.

Paul Oakenfold
Armin Van Buuren
Fergie
Eddie Halliwell
TERRACE
Type Terrace
Seb Fontaine
Jon Carter
Nic Fanciulli
Whoever it was is besides the point though !!! I can't believe he's written that about anyone what a joker.
He's probably one of the worst DJ's iv ever seen, anyone who has suffered jules playing at a decent night will know the mans lack of ability and the groans that sound out when he comes on (a load of sets at crasher spring to mind). That diary entry is the funniest thing I've read in ages

it is ironic though, a man who inspires so much cringing amongst trance fans criticises a DJ's set when his own sets are below par

Well when I saw him live, he played such an explosive set that blew the roof off the place... Gotta be one of the top 3 live shows I have been to... Next to Marco V, and Ferry Corsten..

We were discussing this on another message board and came to the conclusion that he was referring to oakenfold - he refers to a "superstar DJ" and then refers to the "younger" DJ
to be fair oakenfold's sets are beyond a joke. not that judge jules' sets are better, but oakey clearly has a bigger standing in the world of EDM, not just in the UK but on a world wide basis
anyone who looks at the last few of oakeys sets will agree they are complete and utter gash
and no, just because he's shit doesnt mean he isnt entitled to his own opinion. if anything, i actually respect him a bit more than i did before, for speaking out. he clearly was pissed off enough to warrant him writing about it in such strong words.

actually I think most people would agree that Jules sets are ALOT better than oakenfolds... I have heard some of Oakies latest aswell as some of Jules latest... and there is a huge difference in quality.. Jules having the better of the 2... Jules isn't the greatest by far, but I think he deserves more respect from the community than he gets...

i agree with him that oakie has turned sour recently but publicizing it for all top djs, promoters and fans to see is a bad move and isn't the 1st time hes kicked himself into a hole.
irish TA's will remember quite recently admitting his Lush set was one of his worst as he was completely wasted. fcuking hate fudge jules. him calling me a bastard in shagaluff didn't make me want to join his fan club

I would respect him if he would criticize a dj and then actually tell us which dj it was himself instead letting us figure out which dj it was.
No respect in this.

Clearly talking about Oakenfold.
To be fair, he's not tried hiding it - anyone can figure it out.
I'm usually one of the Judge's biggest critics, but this time I think he's got it absolutely right - Oakenfold was pathetic; Halliwell pretty good.
