Studio Monitors

Everyone always says you need monitors for your setup, but I've got a few questions. These are also going to be serving as my main speakers, and I know that monitors have a flat response, meaning that they're probably not going to sound very "full" and good to throw a party with. But, with my mixer controls, I should be able to bump up the bass and treble to the levels I need, correct?

So, with that in mind, I'm trying to decide between the follwoing monitors.

The Alesis MI Actives MKII
-or-
M-Audio Studiophile BX5

I'm interested in this as well. I'm almost of the opinion that I should get full range speakers so as to be able to feel the bass beat better, rather than a monitor.

anyone?

are monitors of full-spectrum speakers better for a home setup?

and if monitors are, which of those two do you reccomend?

Well, I use monitors because they let you hear every little mistake, and are very accurate. I recently added a sub for that extra punch.
If you are going to use these as regular speakers to, I would go with something else because monitors are not very...umm...fun to listen to. For home use I use Dynaudio speakers, which are also nice to DJ with.

If you're going to pick between those two, I'd pick the Alesis.

If you want fantastic sound, get a Syrincs M3-220 set. Now that's awesome stuff

i checked out the 20/20s and i noticed they've got adjustable high and low levels...so trinity, does that mean you can crank that shit up and get a nice sounding full-range?

I have the event PS8's which are similiar to the event 20/20.

The thing about studio monitors, well specifically the Event Monitors, is that they are Direct Field monitors. That means that the speaker has to be pointed directly at you in order for you to hear the benefits of the speaker.

The 'Sound Field' on direct field monitors is much narrower than regular speakers.

...just something to think about so that you know what you are buying and if it will fit your needs.
