Earlier today I was asked the following:

Now, being anti-war it's probably a question along the lines of something what we all get asked when the issue comes up. I'm curious as to what your 'in a nut shell' response to such a question is

In any case, I stand by what I've said all along: this was the wrong war at the wrong time, fought for the wrong reasons. The question of whether Iraq will be better off without Saddam cannot yet be answered, as it remains to be seen how successful the "reconstruction" and "democratisation" of Iraq is. Even if these pursuits are successful (which we probably won't know for another 5 years or so, maybe longer) the criticisms remain valid.

On the other hand, I must admit that it is undoubtedly good that we got rid of Saddam Hussein and replaced him with a murdering, secular authoritarian who imprisons dissenters and wasn't elected by the Iraqi pe...... oh, wait a second. :-/

Well as a bonus to ousting Sadam, it seems all the raghead radicals of the world have been drawn to Iraq and we're waging the fight over there. Better than over here and better to have one less country sponsoring terrorism.

Of course Iraq is better without him.

1) The minorities in the country can get equal say and are no longer killed and persecuted.

2) The ruthless baath party isn't in power.

3) The country is moving toward a leader that the people choose. Saddam entered the leadership of the country after a coup.

4) The majority of the country's money can now be spent on the people instead of weapons.

5) Kuwait and Saudi Arabia no longer have to fear an invasion.

6) Saddam stole billions of dollars from oil for food and smuggled oil during the meantime, money that should have went to the people, now the new government can reap the real benefits of their wealth.

7) Without Saddam there are no more economic sanctions imposed on them and they are more free to do business with the world.

8) Their airport is planning on being reopened now after being closed for years under saddam, allowing its citizens to travel more freely.

9) The people are free to protest and worship which they couldn't under Saddam's regime.


I think there is no doubt the people of Iraq and the entire world are better off without him. I think a lot of people question the timing, motives, and if it was our job to get rid of him. Many of the exact same things are true with north korea but I don't think we are going in there any time soon. There is no doubt anywhere in the world that Kim Jong Il is destroying his country, killing his people, and without him there would be unification and equal rights like in South Korea.

Yeah and now those money goes into the pockets of corporate america

Well some business has to take care of the oil infrastructure. Since Iraq doesn't have the capability to do it themselves if it wasn't an American company, it would be from another country, be it France, England etc. Does that make it better?

Pretty sure there was and is one million Christians in Iraq who did which ever religous activites they'd like to do during Saddam. Saddam's regime != Saudi Arabia, thus Bin Laden hated him.

what U.S. oil companies? what do you know about the oil market other than whats been fed to you?
