As I woke up this morning turned on NPR and heard the words of our so called President, I am left with the feeling of utter disbelief. George W. Bush remind me once again what you will do domestically to tackle the issues of health care, job losses in which the CEO's are the only one benefiting in salary increases from offshoring, How do you plan to be compassionate and unite this nation

The Chickenhawk Convention was a wonderful testament to fearmongering and War. I would like to know this, does the individual in Topeka, Kansas or Lansing, Michigan that concerned about terrorists. Hmm, I think not. America under George W. Bush can only expect more of the same that we have now, promises of economic recovery, job losses being replaced by wages that require one to work two or three jobs to pay their rent or mortgage, a renewed neo-con administration that will threaten any and everything under the sun with war, daily reports of terror alerts and worst of all the face and voice of George W. Bush as the representation of America throughout the world.

The reason I chose to not watch the speech is so as to not hear his bad vocabulary, I will at least take a man who went to Vietnam and served over those two Chickenhawks that talk about war at every opportunity at the RNC aka the "War and Terror" Convention. I wonder if we run our nation or the terrorists do. I lack any profound feeling of hope for this nation and its important role in the world after the RNC this week, good riddance and please don't return to New York soon, New Yorkers can have our city back now

I believe he is going to help out the average working man by increasing the restrictions on overtime and not raising minimum wage (even though its lagging the cost of living by such a wide margin its not funny).

You see corporations are in a tough spot they don't want to hire you full-time because then they would need to give you health benefits. So they pay people hourly, either as part-time or temp positions. But the problem with hourly workers is you have to pay them overtime to make up the difference of not having an adequate full time staff. But thanks to President Bush this problem is solved.

By all means, let's talk about government protections for workers. The unemployment rate today is 5.4%, and it has always been one of the lowest in the Western world, if not the lowest. The easier it is to hire and fire someone, the more likely it is that a company will pick up a worker when they need one. If the economy is growing, the company keeps the worker. In today's modern economy, you need this flexibility.

Take Germany as the polar opposite, for example, where government restrictions make it a nightmare to get rid of a new worker. Across Europe today, nations are looking at roughly a 9-10% average unemployment rate.

It really kills me when I see people bitch around here about the unemployment rate, but then they go and bitch about the new overtime rules or low minimum wage. When you raise the minimum wage, the immediate reaction of business is to drop non-essential staff. Unemployment goes up. When you revamp overtime rules, it's easier for business to calculate their future payrolls, making it easier for them to figure out the need for new staff. Unemployment goes down.

A 5.4 % unemployment rate is pretty damn low.

If you have ever taken an Economics class you would know that the absolute lowest the rate can get (in a capitalist society) is around 3%.

But an issue that Bush is going to hit hard on in the coming weeks, will be the huge American Defecit that had happened. Clinton left office with a surplus (in some areas ). We have an ex prime minister that bitches and goes on at the current PM, all the time on the news and in the paper but what he can't explain is he doubled our defecit during his 8 years in office.

What happened? Was it that you actually started reading INTO the issues?

Isn't it amazing how easy it is to liberate oneself once you begin to think on your own?

Personally, I don't fully trust ANY politician as they (at least a great majority of them) only appear to be motivated towards swaying voters.

The latest RNC fear tactics are no exception, especially in light of the fact that NYC has had it's police force downsized post-911 thanks to Dubya's budget cuts.

You are correct I was a Bush advocate indeed in the past, the main factor for me as I have mentioned here numerous times that turned me away from him is Iraq. I would have never supported the Iraq war had I known then what I know now. Somehow I can't get over seeing Colin Powell sitting in front of the U.N. and making claim after claim about drones, nuclear blueprints, uranium from Niger, hidden chemical staches, mobile chemical labs, etc. I'm still waiting for these items to turn up, not, but that is what you get for trusting a neo-con agenda platform. Trust isn't even a term in my vocabulary when looking at the Bush administration and what unfolded in Iraq.

Unemployment depends on who is counted and who is counting - just like the census. Do you really think that everyone who cannot work is eligible for unemployment AND registered with unemployment? I think not.

5.4% is an alright number, and its reasonably low - but I dare not think its ever been the lowest in the world. Scandinavia has posted 3s and lower I believe under Keynes mentality. Now that Reagan and world dumped Keynesian economics no one strives for full employment. The US could only have surpassed the rest of the world say...after the world wars? Interesting strategy if we consider what Bush is doing now...|

Bush spoke on imaginary wishful thinking goals for about a lil over an hour, which people loved......as recent polls show.

Kerry chose to speak and dwell on his vietnam past in his speech and hardly touched on his agenda in his brief 45min speech.
Kerry blabbering and continuing to talk about the past will only dig his grave even deeper and nicer. Im glad the voters will see the difference.

I already knew he served in Vietnam, but I didn't realize that in four months in Vietnam you could learn everything you need to know to be president. That was the impression I was left with after watching the speech.

btw Republicans know how to put together a convention...thats why they win election after election. Dirty politics Eh? Republicans know how to get down and dirty.

Democrats need to wake up and smell the coffee and fight back.

How can you call this a review if you didn't see his speech?

Do you want to know why normal working people care about terrorism? It's because when terrorism continues or effects our society, it also affects the stock market, which affects business and consumer spending, which affects job growth. It all trickles down and if they don't care about terrorism anywhere in our country then they shouldn't be in business. We lost over a million jobs throught the country right after 9/11 and it wasn't a fluke. You can blame all you want on Bush but he didn't ask for 9/11 and many of the problems today including the recession, job losses, situation in Afghanistan and Iraq, where all effected or started in one way by that event.
