Old vinyl?

Hey when I move the first beat back and forth to start the next track and try to line it with the next beat the needle skips off. I adjusted every little thing on my tables, my tone arm, needles etc. Good ortofon S needles too. Then i put my Traffic vinyl on and it dosen't skip a beat mostly. But when I try Love Stimulation and try to start it off it be's a bitch skips off. Just want to make sure its the vinyl

Theres a pretty good chance its the vinyl, however if you take it easy you should still be able to start off fine. I know I have a few records that are touchy on the first beat, and I just gotta be really lighthanded, and I can get by.. The needle might also be a bit too big for the groove if they are new needles.

Something to try would be to just keep replaying the beginning of the record to 'wear' out a better groove.

Just be gentle.

Yep, I have a few records with the exact same problem. I've tried the break in technique and fixed one of them, but the other won't budge so I remind myself to be a bit more delicate when cueing it.
I must say that there is nothing like the frustration of having the needle jump the groove one or two beats before you let it go. Just resist the temptation to fling the record across the room.

vinyl can be such a pain sometimes

i have a record that is so touchy that i have to throw the original heavy ass rubber technic "slip mat" on just to mix it. it's impossible to beatmatch because every time i touch the vinyl it skips.

your problem definitely sounds like the vinyl is the problem, but it's hard to say without looking at it.

pEy

Dear lord this has happened to me so many times, and it always happens either when playing out, or right at the end of an amazing set you recorded.

If your a REAL DJ then you should just be able to pick up an old rusty hunting knife and cut yourself a new groove.

Yep, I've had it happen at a party I was playing at (luckly everyone was smashed so I just did a crossfader slam to end it). It's a huge flow killer too. To have an awesome set going and then the stylus skips the groove and fucks up the mix makes me feel almost ill. Most of the time I just want to stop the record and quit, but I usually play on to redeem myself and go out on a better note.
