What is the best free anti-virus program out there currently?
I don't like MacAfee too much because it seriously slows down my computer.

why dont you agree with it? writing code to detect and tackle viruses is top-notch stuff, not something any average programmer can do...or do expertly, anyway...

Doesnt this raise the question of who is releasing the viruses? Are there really disgruntled computer programmers out there writing sophisticated viruses in an attempt to bring down the worlds computing networks? Or are companies like Symantic (owner of Norton) Mcafee, and other profiteering companies paying people to supply viruses for them. What better way to keep a market alive and active by regularly releasing new viruses, so much so that people are required to pay for a subscription to anti-virus definitions. Yes, this is conspiracy theorish, but its been that kind of week...

Norton, hands down. Don't even look at any other program.
edit: I know it's not free, but it's well worth the cost. The only issue I have is that it takes a while to load up on startup. But that's a small price to pay.
