Mainstream house: the new euro?

With the release of Benny Benassi’s Satisfaction, and Puff Daddy’s influence in the house scene, house has really hit the mainstream. There has been a huge increase of cheese house music in the past year.

As a person who appreciates true house music, I am really getting annoyed with this. It’s really giving house music a bad name.

mainstream radio stations: use your investments elsewhere. don’t cheesify the house scene like you did with the hip hop scene.

Thoughts?

House has been mainstream for ages...way longer than Trance and Tiesto

I believe electronica is getting to be the next trend.
look at the recent stuff by George Michael or Kylie Minogue.
it's getting trendy. so very often I turn on MCM, I see the "benassi bros- hit my heart" videoclip (it's nice I must admit )

None of that electronica stuff is new either...think of Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode, and so many other performers/groups/band from the past all of them had an electronic edge...especially the Pet Shop Boys.

maybe electronica is taking over hip-hop. if you watch thier videoclips, it's filled with hot girls, beach parties and just genral "fun atmosphere". Very appealing to the youth I say (esp. with the trippy and drug elements).
Or maybe it's just the gay people taking over??
I kid I kid

the next trend?

it was mainstream in the 90s. Electronic music has declined, its not getting stronger although you guys may be right about a comeback.

Is it cheese out only cause it's played on the radio, or because the music is actually bad, because if it's the first reason, common rather then being annoyed you should enjoy, I'd love to hear EDM on the radio, or be in the mainstream, there would so much more parties to go to and enjoy, and i could actually use the radio lol

its the crap that gets played on north american radio that sucks. There is lots of good house out there that never gets played. Im all for a proper electronic radio station just like what exists just about anywhere else on the planet.

Pop culture has always latched onto the "next big thing", usually a decade or two after the thing in question has established itself in the underground. It's human nature for the less mature: take something new and original, milk it dry to the point of disgust, then throw it away and find something else. I say less mature because it's very much like a 5-year-old who will do this on a smaller scale - listening to the same song over and over again until getting completely bored with it and refusing to listen to it ever again. Deep down, unless we fight that impulse, we're like parasites.

Don't forget that Hip Hop used to be something totally different. It was dance music, but it didn't even refer to music, it referred to a culture just like rave or EDM do, where the front runners like Kurtis Blow and Grandmaster Flash not only weren't interested in profits, but largely became popular by rapping about the horrible conditions those people lived in and trying to make something good out of it. Record labels took notice, realized how well it caught on, and immediately set out looking for a way to commercialize it so they could profit from it.

If you think the same thing won't happen to EDM, you are sadly mistaken. House music will be the first to succumb because it has been around the longest, and already comes in many flavours that are easy for the common people to digest (take Fatboy Slim as a case in point). Trance will probably come after house, not by virtue of its age but by virtue of the syrupy-sweet tunes with 2½ minute buildups that kill our buzzes on the dancefloor when we're trying to have a good time.

There's already an emerging genre of booty house. I just pray that it stays the hell out of any respectable club.

Be prepared!

Trance by virtue of euro dance has been popular for a decade now. Anyone who says that Eurodance isnt the commercial version of trance you are talking about is sadly mistaken. Same can be said for house. Look at all the disco house tunes that were top 40 in the 90s such as Paul Johnson's Down Down Down etc etc.

Booty House? Thats been around since the 80s! For some reason it has managed to stay out of Toronto clubs but its been prevailant in the US for ages. The closest we ever came to booty house here was the outhere brothers. (LOL @ high school memories)

True.

Booty house is alive and well at Club Shelter in nyc thanks to Timmy Regisford, a true house legend.... and that party is going on its 14th year.
