vst effects for beat?

I wonder if you use any vst effects for beat like ohmboyz (for percussion) or you just use samples?

I often use the 'phaser' on my Hi-hat tics. It's a filler. Without it, it just sounds too dry. (I often refuse to use more percussion)

Usually I'll run a background loop through an extremely slow-moving, low-depth phaser. It keeps the sound interesting in the back of your mind, as it's always changing, but the change isn't enough to distract from the rest of the track.
