GB is more then enuff as it come along in the Comp. You can get more sample by buying from Mac. Good luck n have fun.

Well. Unfortunately, I recommended Cubase SE for a classroom of mostly non musicians, and it's most likely that's what he will buy. He is using the school budget, he might be able to get g.b as well. Too bad, though. Since they use the mac's for educational purposes, I think they removed G.B. I have no idea why they would do such a stupid thing. I can probably change this and ask him to get garage band, but we'll see..

Which is better?

for around $15 you can get a copy of Computer Musys. Comes glued to the front cover of Computer Music magazine. Even includes a few free instruments. A hell of a lot better than I expected it to be. Check it out.

i would definately recommend G.B. over cubase simply because it is much easier to learn and use compared to cubase. Acid pro might also be a good choice as it is really easy to just take some loops and put it together.

However, if you want to truly look deeper in aspects of producing, i would recommend any of these sequencers: Cubase (expensive, powerful but difficult to learn), Logic (expensive, powerful but difficult to learn), , FLStudio (quite cheap and easy to use), Reason (quite expensive but powerful), Buzz (free but difficult to learn)
(there are some other great sequencers as well but I haven't used them or don't know enough about them)

I don't know the prices for these, but you can get FLStudio for 99$ and it is quite easy to get started with so you can try using that.

It would also be a good investment to get a mixer, some microphones, some patch chords, and a wave editing program such as cool edit or wavelab so that the students can create their own vocals/guitars/recording etc...

I would recommend probably some cheap studio monitors (some used ones for 100-200$ will do)


I would say get FLStudio (or garageband or something) for 99$, cheap studio monitors for about 100-200$, patch chords, microphones, music and mic stands for about 50$-100$, and a mixer for about 200-300$ (rough estimate) according to your budget.

This what my high school had for its "studio" except the budget for it was a bit more than 500$ US

I dont know if its to professional but Logic Audio 6 (or whatever latest version) is for mac. And you can do enything with it..

I wouldn't recommend Logic to a class of non musicians, that thing's pretty complicated... Garage Band sounds like a good idea to me.

And remember guys, this is a Mac thread, so don't go talking about Buzz, Fruity or Acid...

Yeah, actually, thanks alot for the help, I needed it so badly a few days ago.

Um, to the guys who recommended the windows stuff, thanks anyways.


We're not getting a 'studio', but we still have a good budget, good enough to buy Logic 6 and a few sample CD's just like that. School money.

There will be no recording or anything like that, just making loops and stuff for our websites. But what I realized is.......I completely underestimated these people without even knowing what they were capapable of. Hey, if we're good enough to learn dreamweaer MX, flash MX, and fireworks in such a short time, using a sequencer to make short songs should be no problem.

Cubase SE is better than garageband in my opinion. I compared, and asked some pros. They say garageband sucks. Even for novices. So, we might just get Cubase (the pro editions)or the newest Logic(What a TOUGH choice) with some samples. Depends. I'll keep you posted.

But if not, just Cubase S.E
