Exclamation Numark CDX Updates

Has anyone ever updated their CDX using the updates from the Numark website?

I have read how to do the process and understand it but I am a bit wary of doing it because of some of the things they say in the instructions.

** IMPORTANT **

Numark strongly encourages DJs NOT to update their CD players immediately prior to an important event. Numark recommends using a surge protection device when updating your CD player. Power surges, power failures, and other unforeseen events can damage the CD player during the update procedure. Problems may occur due to user error. Thousands of Numark CD players have been successfully updated using
the procedure, however, if your product does not function after the update, please contact Numark for professional service. Numark assumes no responsibility for damage to products due to user error.

Reading this does not fill me with much confidence.

I do not have a surge protector looks like I gotta get one though.

thats nothing to worry about, it's mainly a disclaimer to keep their noses clean should anything go wrong. everyone recommends using all electrical musical equipment with a surge protector, it is the safe option and you should get one.

remember, this is firmware, so as long as you don't burn the thing out, if upgrading doesnt work you should be able to get the previous firmware back on it and it should work. make sure you get copies of both the new firmware, and current firmware versions before you do this. i think it displays the current version number on the display when you switch it on.

so long as you follow the instructions EXACTLY there shouldn't be a problem

Thanks for the reply i am just wondering though do I have to put on all the updates starting with the oldest first or just the newest one? Sorry if I sound like a noob but I have never updated it before or know of anyone that has.

Also if I do have to put all the updates on do I need to burn them all to seperate discs or can I put them all on one disc and do it that way?

Thanks luke

Updating the software on a numark cd deck is simular to updating the bios of a pc w/ a flash rom. The reason why they have warnings is if the unlikely event that updating should fail (like the power goes off while flashing), it can leave the player unusable, just like what would happen to a pc's motherboard that had a failed flash.

Flash ROM is a form of Read Only Memory that can be cleared and erased by applying a electrical "flash" to the chip. Then using the same method, data can be written on that rom where it will stay permanetly unless you flash it again.

So when you flash, be sure to have the newest software, and also burn the cd at the SLOWEST SPEED POSSIABLE!!! Also, be sure not to do it during a bad rain storm b/c if the power goes out when flashing your screwed. Also to be safe don't touch the player in the middle of updating. And if you do all that everything should be fine. BTW... I've updated my firmware on my axis9, countless number of motherboards, a hacked firmware for my dvd burner, and a 9800pro to 9800xt and back again. I never had anything fail (but i did have customers that kill stuff but that's not my fault ), so take my advice and everything should be fine.

Nope, just burn one track that has the firmware. Be sure you finalize the cd and burn @ a slow speed.

Cool thanks for that I'll give it a go when I get my surge protector.

Also my mate has just bought a Denon DNX 1500 and in the spec it says it is user upgradeable, anyone know any info about updating or where to get the updates for it from.

Thanks luke
