Re: Disillusioned with work...

..so here is an old theme, but I'm going to revisit it. I've been feeling totally shite while at work these past couple of weeks. I've lost all motivation to work for the corporation (Bell) that employs me. This happens to me with every job. I get bored, and can't find the challenge with work.
I was wondering if any of you had any advice about coping with this kind of thing.
I'm aware of all the small things you can do to make work more bearable (posting threads about work on TA), but I'm wondering if a lot of you have the same problem I do. What strategies do you use to cope?
This whole feeling started after reading a thread earlier in the week. Someone wrote something that really stuck with me. They were commenting on working for corporations, and said something like: "Why would I work to achieve someone else's dreams when I have my own that i'd like to achieve?"
So, what is it you guys do to stay sane at work? |
Hey, that was me who said that. ( i feel special ).
Anyways, you have a few options. I find myself in the same position as you very often. You can approach it in 2 ways. 1. the corporate way or 2. your personal way.
The corporate way would be to sit down with your manager and
- discuss your current position and growth within it.
- start career path planning with them
- ask for additional special projects that show your capabilites.
- come up with some proposals to reinvent the way processes are done to be more efficient / effective.
You wont be the first one to do that and they are not going to blacklist you or anything. A good manager helps their team grow and Bell has these career building options.
You can always do things like use the extra time to work on your own personal business aspirations.
Im totally for good work ethic and loyalty but remember, there's life after BELL. Always ask yourself, is your company as loyal to you as you are to them.
Personally, Im on the fence with this one. I do both.
