axis 9 or cdj100s ?

I'm looking for a beginner's setup and I'm trying to choose between these two models. Everyone around here uses pioneers. clubs got CDJ1000 while almost everyone I know with cd decks at home has CDJ100s. From what I've read Axis 9 has way more to offer than CDJ100 for similar/less cost. Other than that is there anything wrong with Axis 9 or is it just that pioneer is overpriced? could anyone who used both models give me a hint here? what about sound and build quality?

Axis9, great deck for cheap. Or just wait for the vestax cdx-05 or the denon s-1000. Pioneer decks are usually good, but are over-rated for the price. BTW, check out guitar center and see if they still can get you a DMP-555. It's a good, solid deck that has 2 sets of outputs and can play a cd on one output and play a mp3 that's on a SD card on the second output at the same time. Plus it's usually a $800-$1300 deck that guitar center was getting rid of for $300 (that's how i got mine)

personally i think the axis9 is the best value for money you can get for a cd deck at the moment. it's solidly built too (i give my equipment a lot of hammer, and it puts up with it) and its very simple to use. as i have said before a few times, the pioneer will probably last longer than the axis9 (not to say the axis9 will die in a year) simply because pioneer are better at building stuff. but the features of the axis9 are awesome compared to the annoyances of the cdj100, for example stutter cueing instead of scratch cueing.. to save myself typing too much i have copied what i posted in another thread a while ago on a similar discussion

the main things that the axis 9 has and cdj100 hasn't are:

*touch sensetive jog wheel
*scratch cue (and an option for stutter cue.. bleh) - cdj only has stutter
*12 effects, including "sleep" which isn't included on most of the top of the range cdj's for some reason.
*you can have 3 effects on at once.
*realtime scratching (4 modes of)
*2 seamless loops
*3 hot cues
*3000 cue point storage
*beatkeeper III (best beat counter in the world. amazing for use with seamless loops and effects)
*start/brake speed alteration
*not sure on the pitch range on a cdj100, axis9 = +/-6%, 12%, 25% & 100%
*keylock

it also has track programming & relay start for those that are bothered (not i)

in short, i would reccommend this cd deck to anyone, its great!

Does anyone know what the pitch accuracy on these players are? (I think the accuracy on the DMP-555's is .05%, but I've been trying to find out the accuracy of the Axis9's for a little while and can't find anything)

Vestax PCM-275 is the best mixer for what its worth. Alot of people on here have them, and I havent heard any of them complaining.

Im not exactly sure what the accuracy is on the numark, but it's very easy for me to mix on both my dmp-555 and axis9, and when set to 6% they feel almost identical to me.

the pitch increment of an axis9 is 0.1%, mainly why it only costs £250

and yes as far as mixers go, the vestax pcv-275 is very good value for money. very hard wearing mixer, beautiful x-fader, kill switches, & effect send/return. all in a nice heavy duty champagne case.. the faders will last forever. i have had mine well over a year, and there is not one sign of anything going wrong on it, its all just as good as the day i bought it.

the only thing i would swap it for is a nuo5 or something like that

Damn that sucks, I was looking into that as something to add onto my setup, even though I don't know how serious I'd be into cd mixing, it would be something cool to play around with. Is it possible that numark could improve the accuracy in the future with a firmware upgrade or is that something hardwired into the fader?

I dont think they could improve the pitch like that. I think the cheapest deck with 0.02 accuracy is the dns3000 not sure though, there might be a cheaper deck with 0.02 by american audio or something.
