Should Sydney have a dedicated prog trance night?

Should Sydney have a dedicated prog trance night?

Should we put a small but dedicated prog trance night? Their seems plenty of prog trance lovers but hardly any outlets.

What are your thoughts?

i think you're better having one room prog trance and the other room uplifting..

i remember hearing Cam play his 'Probspot' set before above & beyond and whilst he didnt like the equipment he still produced a nice set.. so i think thats the go..

however you're the organiser..

i dont think a montly event would work, but maybe special events, like 4 a year?

a 2nd prog trance room MAY work, but i still think people who like progressive trance, wont come to a trance night if they think its going to be uplifting also.

we need a progressive/prog trance night, one that starts with normal prog house and "progresses" through the night not finish with some nice pumping prog trance.

thats my thoughts

Oh and small venue would be the way to go i think, say 400 people max??

I think you should incorporate a second room to go from breaks to prog trance to uplifting to tech and whatever else.

Muli and Cam are great at keeping their sets diverse

edit: good to see josh doing his bit for the sydney dance community

I'd say no.

The sound isn't that acceptable in the Sydney scene. It's too trancey to get the SC guys to come to it, and too proggy for the trance guys. Don't get me wrong I LOVE the sound, but it's not main room club friendly.

It's a good side room sound, perhaps even a chill out room sound. I'd think you'd get about 100 people max to a room playing prog trance; not something that's going to be staple for a main room. [perhaps the sound could be grown?]

I'd also say (as already said), a full night of prog trance is too much...IMO regardless of room, I believe it'd work better if all the sounds of progressive were used through the night.

Also, you run JAFP, you said your opinion is only yours, but that is also the main opinion behind JAFP.

"Well I personally like uplifting trance and faster right the way through to happy hardcore!!!! I personally find prog trance a bit much to hear in a club environment"

"Should we put a small but dedicated prog trance night?"

Can I ask why the sudden change of views? [seems a bit funny putting on a night where you don't like the music, purely for the greater good of the scene. Promoting is a lot of work (don't need to tell you that), I just can't see why you'd go to such lengths for the scene when you could put on a night of happy hardcore, or something that you are passionate about]

Thanks,
--djway

^^^
Thanks for the honesty

We now have a couple of promoters working on the JAFP events not just myself. I personally would not work on an event that I wasn't passionate about musically and knew the scene very well. That's why i have locked myself down to concentrating on A Night Of Trance and ULTRA. That being said though we have had a fair bit of interest from the other promoters about putting on other nights especially breaks but also prog. If such nights were to go ahead I would not really be involved in them from a musical stand point. I don't know enough about those styles of music.

None the less I am interested in what you guys want. You guys are the community and the events are for you.

yeah SC I think are doing a fantastic job and as Wade said, their regulars would definitely find it a little too trancey if one was to get started up by ANOT! although alot of us here on these boards would definitely recommend a move, I think the night will ultimately be a flop as it is too difficult to move people away from the regular dominating scenes such as the Hard Trance and House scenes. Positive thinking though Josh, I respect that

if the attendance in the prog room @ ANOT back in march is anything to go by.. not too positive.

You could always test it out and see how it goes..
