Authorities Checking DJs who play from CDrs

Apparantly and im not 100% if this is true, a club in Wales (called Liquid) was targetted by some kind of Music Authority demanding to be shown proof that the DJs who used CDrs that night actually purchased them or obtained them legitimatley!

Crackdown on DJ's using burned Mp3s? or just a jobsworth being nosey?

I cant see them coming to Liverpool any time soon, most of the lads in town work with vinyls and have their own labels anyway so own the rights to most of the tunes. Not sure if dodgy CDrs are a big problem eleswhere

as long as you STILL own a copy of the original recording on CD or vinyl that's legit (i.e. not buying it, copying to CDR then selling on the vinyl) you must have the recording still.

I am a resident dj at several liquids across the uk, including a large one in wales.
As far as im aware, the prs/trading standards/the mcps havent been into the welsh one recently (certainly not on my night) but its happened in others to me and others.
You may be referring to a recent case in another liquid where a dj was fined BIG time for having a whole series of album compilations on cdr which he didnt have the originals of. A letter was sent out to the many venues owned by the company warning of such things.
Yes it is true- becoming increasingly common too.
Its nothing new however- they have been doing random checks for years- standard procedure is they confiscate offending material and give you a set amount of time (7-14 days) to produce the originals. No big deal really.
To the letter of the law, you cannot copy it to use in a public performance capacity-you must play from the original source- i have double checked this with the relevant organisations too. However, this isnt always applied due to practicalities- there is a certain amount of leway given and this is outdated somewhat.
Long story and lots of crap to do with the legal side of things and some large grey areas still- but bottom line is, if you play illegal material out, then it serves you right when you get fined big time.
No excuse.

edit: do you have a link to your source on this>?
