So I waiting for some compiling to be finished at work, I got bored and was checking out Google Labs. I noticed they have a new toy out... Google Desktop Search (http://desktop.google.com/) - It apparently lets you search your own computer files (chats, e-mails, word files, etc) . If it works as good as the main google search engine, it will surely beat MS's own indexing service .

how does your router stop you from being able to use it?

This thing sets up a local server that gathers all the needed information, then connects to it. The router blocks the connection. I got an error message saying i should reconfigure my firewall/proxy.

Probably tries to establish an external connection to report user statistics... :-/

It does. Stats regarding crashes on the program itself, etc (ie: non personal data). You can opt out of this feature when setting up the program.

The most amazing thing about that proggie is it's size - less than 500K. It's been a while since I've seen a useful program which download size has been this small.

What about anything from grc.com - the guy writes all his stuff in asm, spinrite is under 100k and has already saved my hard drive once!
But the GD actually does look like an interesting program. I like how you can actually opt out of the data transmission.
