Since their are so many threads about "what should i get?" and "vinyl vs cd" i thaught it would be good to have a different thread... so in this thread post some stories of your biggest LIVE stuff ups eg. Realy bad beathmatching that was playing over the main speakers, complete silence, needle jumping around non stop.

erm... far far too many to list
-Taking the wrong record off (not done this for a while)
-Turning the power switch off on the mixer -which FUCKNUT decided to position it next to the meters on the front of the mixer?? (formula sound 600 mixer btw)
-The tonearm screw being too tight on 1210s, and the stylus heading suddenly towards the centre mid mix
-Stylus' snapping
-Catching the cart with your shirt sleeve
-Turning the technics off by accident
-Dj booth not being built yet, and turntables being set up on a rickety table. Either skipping when you cue, or when someone walks into it.
Ive only ever trainwrecked big time, when a) the record has skipped, or b) my headphones have failed mid mix (see my pioneer threads... lol)
All adds to your experience and competency- pain in the ass when things are beyond your control
lol- aaah memories
Ill think of some more and post them up later

Done that too
Better is to quickly cut the cross fader across for like a bar or something, but not have the fader up for that side
Lack of replies here..... hey if you cant look back and laugh at yourself whats the point?

I can see that happening! The blunder I remember is removing the wrong record -- jackass move, but it hasn't happened in a long time.

I can mix with it fine & it has quality. I think it's just your lack of l33t skillz

yeah well iv never taken the wrong record off, but for my first track iv started with the wrong remix before... as well as this one place did have monitors so i was using my phones all the way... and so i though i was mixing out and then i noticed that the volume fader was all the way down after the mix was done
Had a hudge dust ball fall from the roof of a club and get on me record and my needle got cought on it and so the needle went RRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGHHH!!!!!!! all the way to the spindle of the Technic... that sucked the most out of all of em'...
having an American Audio CDS-1 cd deck go stupid on you. like they were doing last night. we had 2 of these, and a CDJ-800. i'd mix from the Pio to the CDS-1 that was giving least trouble atm. eventually, they were both stupid, as in they would stop playing for 3 seconds, come back. they would skip like bastards. if you pressed the buttons harshly, they would have an abusive amount of delay to carry out the function. basically fucked my last 4 tunes.
I guess im lucky, the worst thing that ever happend to me was when i was doing a radio show and i was just playing a song from a laptop (no mixing) then when i faded the song in using the touch pad on the laptop as i let go it was so sensitive that my sleeve brushed the bottom of the touch pad and cut out the sound completly. Luckily i noticed and put it back up straight away... although that happend twice in the one show!
Made a few in my time too.
The only one I can remember in recent history happened last week.
Was mixing two tracks and let one play all the way out, then someone got my attention and wanted to ask me if I would pose for a picture with them (They must have thought I was someone else he he)... When fuckwit (me) returns to the decks I take the record that had played out off the deck and start queing the next one. Only problem is that I have forgotten to turn down the channel fader (As I never really use the cross fader) so the whole club heard me queing up Igor S - Boomerang. Fortunately it doesn't have drums in the beginning and I noticed it soon enough. But they would have heard some weard squeeks and stuff.
Nothing to do about it though, just put your hands up and shrug it off, and besides not many people noticed.
Something worth thinking about though, as a pro you encounter a lot more distractions than a bedroom DJ does and even though you are 100% concentrated even the best of us are caught off guard at one time or another. It's how you deal with it that makes you proffessional.
