Drunk newbie beat match question

Hi!

I have been mixing for a few months now and by now I can beat-match almost every song (as long as it doesnt have some weird things..).

But I only get good results when mixing inside the headphones (with the cue-pgm fader in the middle or so).. I find it really hard to beat-match with one ear listening to the speakers and the other to the headphones..

The thing is, is that ok like that? or should I try harder to learn the other form?? how do professionals do it??

thanks for advice

Doesn't really matter how you mix as long as it sounds good.

The only thing you probably shuld keep in mind is that one day you might have to play on a mixer which only allows to listen to one channel through your headphones. It probably won't be an issue but by practising all the different methods of monitoring you will save yourself some stress should the above situation occur.

I beatmatched inside my headphones for ages, then tried one ear on, one ear off and and it was relatively easy.

also by being able to mix in the phones it will make spin in venues taht dont have monitors much easier.

if you beatmatch in the headfones, then when it is all nice and beatmatched just switch it to cue only, and just keep tabs on your cue track every now and again to make sure it stays in time while you listen to the mix through the speakers.

thats how i do it anyway

I kinda have the same problem. I don't know if it's my el-cheapo setup (aka. computer system ), since I'm using 2 soundcards (possibly with different latency) but I simply CAN'T hear if they're matched or not. I have no idea if it's really far from it or perfectly matched.

When I have both in my phones though, my beatmatching is pretty good and I always hear if it's out of sync or not.
