Baseball is a game rooted in history moreso than the other sports...you say you're such a fan, I'm surprised you so readily brush aside the past. |
Ummm... where were these die hard Yankee fans in 1992? Or 1989? Or anytime in the late 80's/early 90's? They were nowhere because they didn't exist. They were giving away tickets in the 80's to Yankee games. But all of a sudden, after '96, there were Yankee fans everywhere. Ask them who played center field before Bernie Williams most would have no idea. So don't go saying that all of a sudden Boston fans will be cocky. Beause every team that wins has fans that are cocky. If the Mets won the WS in '00, there would have been a 75% increase in fans, I'm sure. Now, there's few of us left.
And as for me brushing aside the past... I'm not. I love the history of baseball. And I love baseball today. I love seeing records get broken, etc. But the Yankees having more championships than any other team has nothing to do with 2004. Did the Yankees win this year? No. Did the Cardinals? No. Did the Red Sox? Yes. If history played a part in determining which the better team is, then wouldn't the Red Sox have won 75 championships by now because they were the team before 1919. If the past determined the ebtter team, the Sox would've continued to win. But they didn't. And many other teams stepped up and won. However... the Red Sox won tonight. And that's all that matters now. But you can go to sleep reassuring yourself that the Yankees are still better than the Red Sox this year...
