Hi again.

A local music shop is selling two used Str8-60's in good condition, with the cartriges and everything, for $250. I am really considering buying these, but I haven't been able to find much about them online while researching.

What do you guys/gals think about these decks? These will be the first I've ever owned, so I don't need torque like the Numark TTX-1's or anything But would these be decent decks for my first ones?

I use to own one. It's tonearm was really skip proof. However the pitch control was always off and a pain in the ass to set. Also this deck didn't have much in the way of torque, so when you cue a record it would either stop the platter or you would have to use the outside edge of the record. Since the pitch control really sucked, it was almost impossiable to mix, but once i started using better decks, my ears were trained to adjust the speed accordingly.

For $250 i would print this ad off and head over to guitar center and get yourself a tt-500 that's price matched.

Thanks Chex, I'll look into that. I'm kinda limited on money, that's why I was looking at used, but after reading about that pitch issue (I also just found another page that was talking about that), I'm not too sure about the Str8-60's.

sure thing. I played around w/ a tt500 a few weeks back, and i'm pleasently surprised. I personally think it's a much better quality deck than the pdx-2000, and many of it's features and feel are simular to my 1200s. Im not gonna say it's better than my technics b/c i love mine too much, but i will say it's one nice turntable especially for the money.

I don't know. i personally don't like the feel of the platter on the pdx. Plus it's way too plasticy, and the wood base construction may not hold up over time. It's hard to say.

Yeah, that's what I've always thought of the PDX2000. I've never actually used one but they look like they are a children's toy!

they certainly arn't.. they are the only deck to have given technics a run for their money on build quality.

granted, they don't look the poshest, but they work the best IMO..

I really don't care how the pdx2ks look. I just really think the platter is kind of screwy. It seems like the platter on every single pdx is off-balanced. If you do a motor off effect the platter will just rock back and forth a little bit before stopping. Another thing, the feet are screwed in w/ plastic bolts, so it's very easy to break. (we did it to one when my friend moved) It's still very nice deck, but i personally will stick w/ my 1200s.

Hehe of course I know they aren't a toy, I've read nothing but great things about them. I was just stating that they LOOK like a toy

the 60s have a +/- 10% pitch range which is pretty shitty for mixin. u'll find you will have to continuously perform manual corrections to the record while you are mixin. essentially u will be usin one hand on the mixer! i used these decks for 1 year, mixin like that and once i got a decent pair of decks (ttx1s) i found it REALLY REALLY easy to mix!


if these are ur firsts it'll do you no harm to learn the ropes on em then move onto a better pair such as technics

i have this problem much more so on my m5g.. with the vestax platter, as you will know it is screwed down to the spindle so if anything you should get this less. madness lol..

have you tried the new pdx mk2 pro series? i can see why the platter on the old one can turn people off, its quite well raised (i personally don't mind) but the new one looks well spanky, and is lowered quite a lot compared to the old style.
