PC based djs needed

I am designing a hardware controller for use with pc/mac dj programs.I am looking for input from anyone who uses these type of progs ( level of experience/musical style not an issue) I just want thoughts and comments on the types of features that your ideal controller/plug in deck would have. Anyone who is up for it can either post here or (preferably) email me at [email protected]. Lets have your suggestions !!!

Peace

Well... Just make it like a normal mixer but with pitch and pitch bend on it.

I would buy such a thing for the right price btw

i dont know if this would be possible or not, but to somehow have two cursors on screen (maybe controlled by two mice) would be handy for adjusting eq's while in transitions

One thing I hate about most hardware controllers is the response-time. They respond slower than most cd-players, and that is quite annoying when you're in the middle of a mix.

Another thing that would be nice is a display that shows the current BPM, pitch-setting (x.x %), and both the remaining and elapsed time of the current track.

I believe that's due either to the latency from your soundcard/cpu, *or* MIDI latency, or both. But yeah it sucks. If it's MIDI latency, I believe there's a new standard called OSC that's supposed to be the next-generation MIDI standard (no or little latency, etc).

And as for controller... 6 rotary knobs, 2 faders and 1 crossfader's fine. You definitely need a way to have it "recognize" or preset itself for the various DJ mixing computer programs out there, as there seems to be a lot of um.. very computer UNSAAVY people out there

But hey, that's what forums are for!

make it 8 rotary knobs to include a gain control, and a VU meter for each channel.

Maybe even add extra knobs in case the program could utilize them, such as filters and effects like that. You could possibly add kill switches as well.

USB and MIDI
crossfader
maybe 6 rotary knobs and one fader for each "channel" (2 channels)
some extra rotary knobs for FX and whatnot
2 pitch faders and pitch bends

theres not really any need for VU meters or displays since you have a whole screen for that stuff.

here's an M-Audio product that sounds simlar, but the layout kinda sucks

Well I use PCDJ Red...

I think the ideal controller would be just like the DMC1 controller and the newer one (can't remember the name), except that it also has the crossfader and volume sliders built in.
