hi all, i did use search and it doesnt work,
please can someone point me in the direction of a bpm mixing chart so i know what roughly what pitch to set my records at to beatmatch please

For what its worth, you can buy one from Hard to Justify the Price Records

However:
I (any many others) can pitch a track within literally a few seconds- faster than it would take you to pick up the chart and look at it.
As pitch is analogue anyway, it wont be exact so kind of pointless anyway- not that there is enogh light in most club consoles to be able to read it properly.

Yep - learn to use your ears and not how to read a chart. A BPM grid or beatcounter might seem like a good idea when you're starting out but all you're doing is short-cutting the essential listening skills you need to acquire to DJ properly.

I've never seen one of those charts but I did buy a beatcounter when I was starting out. Nowadays, the only thing I use it for is determining the BPM of my records when I first buy them (I label all my records by key/BPM).

How many DJ's have you ever seen poring over a chart mid-mix?

ok, its just i got my decks yesterday and was having trouble last nite mixin, but this mornin i read an article on mixing and managed to beatmatch two songs using the pitch adjuster so your right prob wont need that chart now, thanks anyway

Ive said it a million times.... Don't use a beatcounter! Ever! You know, I do use a beat counter on the first record I throw down because I like working with a 133-135 BPM. After that though, its completely useless to me. As others have said, if you rely on something like a beatcounter you're screwing yourself. Most clubs don't have one. None of them are really accurate. Avoid it!!!

very true. the only real use for a beat counter is, as you say, to get a starting tempo (which really can be done by ear easily anyway) or in conjunction with beat effects, samplers and loops.

the fact of the matter is that a lot of people don't realise how good their own brain is at sound processing. our brains have their own, more reliable beat counters, as well as built in compressors/limiters. if only they made an FX unit for your brain!

I agree. I have a real hard time though knowing what BPM something is playing at (like when I first start out). I don't know why, but I can't tell if its playing at 130 or 135. Matching beats no problem... I am just not good at estimating. I think thats the whole problem, never ask me to estimate size, distance, BPM, anything - I will be horribly wrong.
