Abortion - Philosophical view ??

We have all talked about abortion, however I was wondering what do you think about abortion from a philosophical point of view !

Philisophically speaking, if life begins at conception then I should have been allowed to drink legally nine months earlier. Does that answer your question?

Philosophical point of view?
LOL, is any point of view truly philosophical? I'll give you my opinion ...

abortion is the murdering of life. Because we don't know for sure exactly when life begins we should assume that it begins at the instant the first cell is formed. however, there are circumstances such as with rape, incest and threat to the mothers life when abortion should be allowed. As for abortion being a criminal law, no I don't believe it should be. We already have too many laws out there that can't be enforced and this would seem to be a very unenforcable law considering women can now take pills at home and do the deed. It's between the woman and the judgement of God.

I'm guessing this is another one of those homework assignments since this person didn't bother to put his thoughts. Might be wrong though.

If we don't know when life begins why only start when the first cell is formed? Why not when mum and dad meet the first time? Or when the first couple of grandparents met the first time?

This point of view is very inconsistent with your first point. Why is it less of a murder to kill the featus if it's father was an asshole?

Legalizing murder because it can be hard to keep track of it? Sounds like a sliding slope to me.

Hey, it was supposed to be philosophical. Religious arguments are not really part of modern philosophical tradition.

My own view: Abortion is simply a exercision of the power of the strong (the mother) over the weak (the featus). It's kind of ironic that conservatives in the US is traditionally against it, as they practice this power quite often in other settings. In fact, when I percieve the world I see the strong dominating the weak more often than I see the strong giving in to the weak. Hence, it seems more suitable to have abortion be legal, than the other way around.
