Serato Vs Final scratch (c/p from another forum)

a lot of people might be looking for fs2 or serato...so here is a nice post from the sslive forums

quote:
Heres the update on what my friend found out yesterday at RH after talking to Stanton/NI about FS2.
First, they had some DJ's (who apparently sucked ass) booked to play so he couldn't actually get on the system and try it out.
Now I don't know about you...but that seem a bit suspicious to me.

Second, when he talked to one of the guys (white guy with long dreadlocks) in the booth about the trade in program for existing users he was told, "you'll probably be better off selling it on eBay and then using that money to buy version 2.....that, or you could just buy version 2 and have both"
U-N-F-U-*-*-I-N-G B-E-L-I-E-V-A-B-L-E!! Why would I want to keep a POS first generation hardware/software combo that doesn't work? Way to treat your customers you friggin thieves.
After the attitude and lack of hands on time that my friend was getting from the Stanton clones, he decided to walk down to the Serato booth and check out what was going on there.

When he got down there, Sam (one of their developers) was in the booth actually answering questions for people and explaining their product. They were even letting people get on the setup and try it out for them selves. *gasp*
He talked to Sam for a bit and found out a few very interesting things.

First, he was told that there will never be a release of the software that will make your existing hardware obsolete. In other words, when they release their new scratch amp, you don't have to buy it to use the current version (or future versions) of the software...it will still recognize and use the old hardware.

Second, their new scratch amp (which is still a ways off I believe) is going to utilize a different sound board which will fix the low send volume that the current one has.

Third, their new scratch amp will have inputs for three turntables.

Heres where it gets interesting. While my friend was checking out their system, guess who walks into the booth....Paul van Dyk. Now, with the way the Serato booth was set up, it was kind of off on it's own, if you were there it's because you purposely walked down there. It's not like Paul was just wandering from booth to booth and passed through the Serato booth....he was there for a reason. Maybe he's just checking out the competition, or maybe he's sick and tired of sending his laptop to NI to tweak so that TFS runs smoothly, and he is also considering jumping ship. Cant say one way or the other for sure, but I did think it was very interesting.

Anyway, my friends overall impressions of the two booths were:
FS - not very helpful and sort of standoffish. Had some "clones" working the booth that probably didn't know much anyway.
Serato - had an actual developer on hand to answer any questions and explain the product. Had an actual system set up that you could try out yourself.

while i agree stanton are pricks when its comes to PR, i dont think its right to judge which is the better product over this incident. FS2 for all we know could be unfuckingbelievable and then again it could be a piece of shite. think it starts shipping today so i will wait a few weeks to see what the reviews are like from fellow TAs!
