Reasons for trance vs hip hop popularity

Personally I think part of the reason that hip hop enjoys such a following is that it's easier to get into than trance.

Just to start.. This is not a one is better than the other discussion, it is simply stating reasons as to why one is different from the other

Hip hop has more of a universal party atmosphere. There are words and anyone can sing along. The DJ can do more with the songs tricks wise to involve the crowd. Can't do that with trance. It's also much easier to recognize an artist and track title, making it easier for people to go out and get. Also, it's quicker. If you don't like one song there's a good possibility the next song may be totally different.

With trance, at least from a tru trance perspective, the songs will take a while to develop and climax and then the next song usually does the same thing with a different, but similar song.

Dance/house music kind of strattle the gap between these two offering combinations of all the different aspects of both genres.

Trance is more personal/spiritual. It takes more of an understanding and development to like it. Especially(gonna get flamed for this one) much of it is sooooo boring. I am extremely affected by music and anything without a lot of energy bores me, puts me in a bad mood. it's very hard to know who did what song; which can hinder popularity.
Can't sing to it, even if it has vocals because most people would sound out of tune.

I love EDM and hip hop. I grew up listening to Freestyle(dance) and Miami booty/bass. I get a totally different highs from each of them. Booty and Freestyle get me goin nuts and woo hoo; whereas as trance is more of a driving powerful feeling.

true, but youre making the fallacy jump of comparing large genres against each other...

is Toca Me (I need a miracle) difficult for people to like if the know nothing about trance? Nelly for hip hop?

there isnt a true reason that one is more popular, it just happens to depend on the effort one expounds to find music. and there isnt too much effort in the US to find EDM, and hip hop is everywhere.

basically tho, music without lyrics hasnt been popular in the US since the 1920s - and that doesnt seem likely to change soon|

For one thing, as I said in my first post, I wasn't saying which one was better or worse....

I was elaborating on why one is more popular than the other.

Another thing. I am bored at work, so I thought I would do something constructive and when I'm tapping away at the keyboard, it sounds like I'm busy!

If you can get to a base as to why something is, then you can affect a change or help others affect a change to it.

I tend to have a little more perspective than many people on this board because of my musical background. I have been exposed to both genres; more so than many on this board who argue over this subject and enjoy both genres and do not give bias to either one. So I would think based on that I would provide a more valid explanation.

As conceited as that sounds, it is true.

all i want to know is why people who post on tranceaddict feel the need to say why trance is better or worse or different from hiphop? its a different form of music, which loads of people , including myself, enjoy. lets just leave it at that.

That's like asking why do people have to comment on music they think is shit.

I think it's cuz hiphop music is always on tv - trance isn't. Plus in lil clubs(where youngies always goes), where most important stuff is to make money, it's always playin pop/hiphop music, it's pretty hard to hear a real trance, and if you don't hear it, you can't fall in love with it IMO

Good points, but in my opinion what you just said was a long, drawn-out version of the phrase "personal taste."

Nah, like bananas said, it's only because it is the music they are exposed to most of all through mainstream media.

Why "mainstream" hip hop is popular - It's pop(ular) music, older, and has a huge cultural history and following
Why epic/anthem trance is popular - It's pop(ular) music and people are stupid, mostly because they don't think it's pop(ular) music

Hip-hop is just more commercialized. There is more exposure via radio, MTV, etc... A lot more money is put into promoting hip-hop, whereas EDM is more underground, although it is becoming more commercialized. I don't really know how I feel about that. It has it's pluses and it's minuses.
