Information about Atlanta

Can some Atlanta folks give me some information about the scene there?

What are the clubs that play good music? What are the record stores? etc. etc. Is finding a DJ job political, and hard to get?

I will be moving to Atlanta at the beginning of the year, and would like to know whats up before I get there.

If you're not 21, you're fucked. Otherwise there's some good talent rolling through.

Only record shop I know of is a branch of Satellite Records.

Don't know what the DJ market is like, though I wouldn't mind knowing...

well, atlanta has a decent scene... we get most of the big DJs while they're on tours, have a number of good residencies, and a handful of decent clubs... in general, atlanta clubs/lounges play a lot of house, prog, and of course many clubs play hip-hop as well... here are some clubs to check out when you get here:

Eleven50 - in midtown, brings a lot of the huge Trance DJs (ferry, tiesto, pvd, etc.)... decent crowd, a little up tight though... definitely not my favorite club in atlanta

The Mark Ultra Lounge - this place is amazing... very small, but a very underground feeling... awesome crowd, good lighting and sound, people always dance like CRAZY... this club has a lot of house and prog, and brings a lot of the good, less popular DJs (j00f, Sander Kleinenberg, DJ Dan, Christopher Lawrence, etc).

Compound - Really big club, great crowd and vibe, doesn't bring any big DJs, but usually has decent house music

Lava Lounge - has a lot of good prog, nice vibe

As for record shops, satellite records is definitely the best (in a neighborhood called little 5 points). Good selection, 8-10 turntables, and some really chill employees

As for getting a DJ job here, it's probably gonna be pretty tough... there certainly are a lot of politics involved, but even so, the market here is pretty satiated as it is right now... and if you play trance, it's going to be VERY tough... if you havent gathered by now, Atlanta has a much bigger house and prog scene

regardless of the club situation though, there are a LOT of atlanta tranceaddicts, many very good DJs in the group, and we ALWAYS party like there's no tommorow... you're gonna have fun one way or another

anyway, those are my 2 cents enjoy your stay here!
