at the end of the day, lawyers drill companies for cash because they know it will be only a small percentage of what they will make/save the company in various compensation claims etc.

its mainly down to the fact that you can sue anyone, for anything in america. its a shit-arse culture if you ask me.

Here is an example of what lawyers do.


They go to say a condo development. And they go door to door and ask the residents if there is anything wrong, no matter how minor. And they will say...oh well...I have a slight dimple in my wall. or my cabinet is crooked.

They then say well, im filing a class action lawsuit against the owner of this place. If you want that fixed and to get about 20,000 dollars sign your name. XXX already signed and this is your only chance to get on the list. You wont get any money if you dont.

So they sign.

Then they go to the group that runs the place. They say they are filing a class action law suit. Then the local residents who run the place de facto say hell no, the developer is a friend of ours.

So the lawyer says, well, then I will file a lawsuit against you personally for obstructing justice and then Ill go ahead and do the class action lawsuit anyway.

so finally they capitulate.

Then he goes to the developer and says Ill file this and ill file motion after motion after motion and youll end up paying 30 million dollars.

or you can just write me a check for 15 million and well call it over.

You pay lawyers becuase if you dont theyll turn around and sue the shit out of you. The way our legal system works is that you dont have to have a case. After enough 10,000 dollar motions and 15,000 dollar depositions, you go bankrupt.

So you hire these people on for half that and they block the other lawyers.

companies spend a lot more money on worse things than lawyers.


oh yea, and let me just correct you orbax, since i work for 2 lawyers.


here's an example of what lawyers do.


come in to work, dictate for 10 minutes. sit on the phone for 20 minutes talking about football tickets or hockey tickets. go have some lunch. play golf. maybe go to a mediation or a deposition here and there, for which WE (the secretaries) have to brief them on before they go into it, because they don't even know who the f*** our own client is cuz they could care less about the case... yea you get the point

i wish i didnt swear so much. cause id be a kick ass lawyer.

of course it depends on what kind of law you do, but litigation is where the money is, and it has got to be the most BORING line of work...at least to me. reading a bunch of bullshit testimonies and going over insurance policies and just READING READING READING...it's like you never get out of law school...which is pretty much READING. lol at least if it was good material, it'd be worth it. but it's just medical reports and people's depositions and their side of the story.

if you're gonna be an attorney do something good, like criminal defense or work for some big firm that represents huge companies like the NFL...

no matter how much money they make and how many fancy cars (there are 3 lawyers that live in my neighborhood, and they each drive a bmw, mercedes, and lexus.. all black ... all sports cars), they are still have the tightest wallets in the world.. you would need hundreds of dynamite to open it just a crack..

here's my experience with lawyers.. parents own a convenient store.. i work with them now and then.. many lawyers work around the store, so they stop by and buy some snacks .. they don't want to buy potato chips at face value, and think 20 ounce soft drinks are too expensive ($1.15) .. may be expensive to others .. i dont know how much it is in other states, but that's how much it is regular in our market region.

that is true.. but i heard law is like a win lose situation .. i heard from one lawyer that he lost a case for his client, then the client sues the lawyer back for malpractice and unable to perform the appropriate duties the client wanted him to do. he was suing for the total lawyer fees times 10 percent for psychological purposes for losing the trial ..

that sucks.

although i think your feelings are common, it totally disagree with you. i won't take the time point out your flaws b/c, i have more important things to do.

i find it funny that you ridule the american legal system, which derives itself from your legal system.

yea people sue way too much. i'll be honest, i slipped and fell really hard last year when i was working at a restaurant. it was bad, i mean glasses flew in the air (i was carrying dishes) and then landed on my head and broke...i had glass in my hair and everything. i wiped out...like my feet came right out from under me and i landed right on my ass/tailbone, i'm surprised i didn't break it. anyway, ever since that general time frame of the fall, i have the worse fucking pain in my low back and it shoots down into my legs and they go numb. when i'm driving, i have to put the car in park sometimes at a red light so i can stretch out my leg because it hurts so bad. i had an MRI done and it turns out i have 2 bulging discs...they aren't even fully herniated, and i'm in this much pain. it really sucks, but i honestly couldn't be bothered with suing the restaurant. it's so time consuming and for what, a few thousand dollars? i'll still be in pain all the time.

*edit* oh yea i forgot, the reason i fell was because the floors in the back were always wet w/ water and food and crap and they didn't have any slip resistant mats...
