I can't mix slow stuff

So recently I've started to diversify, I always have liked Prog Trance, eg Probspot, Perry O'Neil etc so I've started getting these types of tunes to play at the start, so I can really build up.

I just can't mix it. I don't know why, but I can't mix it.
Once I get into the faster uplifting, my mixing is a bit better, but when I play tech and hard trance (which I really enjoy playing cos of the energy it gives out), I'm a lot smoother, better beatmatching and everything.

Any ideas why this may be? True I probably like the Tech and Hard a bit better, but I also really like the proggy sorta stuff (or else I wouldn't play it), and I wouldn't think this would really affect my mixing.

Anyone else have the same problem?

you are a noob i guess, maybe cuz faster tracks go out of synth faster than the slower traxx. oh i dont know it was hard for me too to beatmatch slow tunes when i started. practice is the only aswer i can give you.

you wil always mix best the music you like best.. especially when you havent really played much of it in the past.

but yeah slower stuff does take a little extra beatmatching to get it to stay in sync for the same number of bars (simply because the music takes longer to get there and thus you have to beatmatch for longer), but as dj jasonF said, practise practise practise

It's because you suck.

No seriously, I used to have the same problem when I started out. In the beginning I used to play faster stuff like trance, hardhouse, hardtrance and and even some hardstyle.

Now i'm playing prog, breaks and tech-house, and i'm 100% happy with it.

You'll get to the point of mixing slower tracks soon enough, just keep practicing.

Porg and the like sometimes requires more concentration and fine tuning than harder or faster paced stuff. I know I'm not satasfied with most of my mixes between progressive tracks unless they're 3 minutes + just keep at it

Yea if you can't mix easy ass progressive tracks, you must really suck...j/k bro, you just need more practice. Just start mixing everything you have and practice practice practice, and everything will get really easy to mix.

^^ I don't comply with "easy ass prog"

But I do say I'm the complete opposite of your problem. I mostly buy some type of progressive, love it and do pretty good (some even say very well) and I started almost 4 months ago. However, my girlfriend is into more bangin' trance and stuff like the tiesto and PVD type and she does pretty well. If I dare try a mix with her tracks, I fuck up. I just can't mix that stuff. I was thinking of doing a thread asking opinions (like you just did) cos its weird.

..eventually I just figured what tu_face said:
"you mix what you like best" So once in a while a try to mix up the genres when it feels right. No pressure. Just go with the flow

it can only get better

^^ yeah I know you said you were joking, but I bet deep down inside you actually hate that boring shit

I'm just kidding with you. I used your argument mostly cos I think I've read it too much in these forums. Too much hatred around, you know.
Anyway, my argument was that slower is not = to easier, as Trance Nutter found out. But faster is not easier either, as is my case.
It all comes down to what you like best. For example;
has it ever ocurred to any of you that your best transitions are with your favorite songs? Sometimes even without practice?

yea but what i said is true. when you are a noob (no offence =) its easyer to mix at 140 than in 120... one of the reasons is that it takes more time to see if its right with the 120bpm than 140bpm... when you are a noob you just cant wait, you dont have confidence on your self so you can easy think that you did it wrong. stop the record and star again. lol thank god i got over it =)

Don't agree with the first point cos I've mixed stuff I don't really like absolutely fine on friends' decks (stuff like Garage; sorry!). But the second point is exactly right, and also prog tracks tend to have longer intros & outros which encourage longer mixes and therefore take more accurate beatmatching.

Na I'm actually a huge proggy fan now...I like the vibe and energy from it, its not too fast and not too slow.

I found that when I first started that the faster tracks are a little easier to get beat matched than the slower tracks as well. It all comes down to having the confidence, but most importantly the experience needed to beat match better and quicker, and being able to "hear" the difference sooner and make the correct correction, before the gallop begins. It takes more time to listen to make sure with slower bpm tracks, so its not an issue with a certain bpm being easier to match, but rather allowing enough time to listen and make sure that they are. As mentioned above, noobs rush things, as did we all when we were noobs...Whom am I kidding I still do
